EV Belgium: ‘Europe will have 1 million charging points this summer’

Good news, EV Belgium, the sector federation for electromobility, heralds: Europe will officially have more than one million public charging points this summer. This also means that traveling with an electric car has never been easier.

According to the European Alternative Fuels Observatory, every EV driver can enjoy a carefree holiday this summer with their electric car. Fast-charging at one of the more than 100,000 (ultra-)fast chargers will take less than 20 minutes.

Same acceleration in Belgium

We are also seeing the same acceleration in Belgium: the charging network has become larger, more user-friendly, and faster than ever before. At the same time, quality and service are improving, thanks in part to the European regulatory framework.

As far as Belgium is concerned, EV Belgium concludes the same analysis as for Europe. The number of public charging points continues to grow strongly, with a total of just under 100,000 usable charging points. More than 90,000 of these are standard chargers, and approximately 7,000 are fast chargers.

Even in Wallonia, which has been performing less well for some time, the sector federation has recorded a doubling of the number of fast chargers in just one year.

This means that Belgium still ranks among European countries in terms of infrastructure. According to the sector federation, Belgium will have no fewer than 2 million electric cars in 2030.

Service and technology further improve

Technology and services are also evolving. For example, European regulations for charging infrastructure stipulate that prices must be transparent and that card payments must be possible. Thanks to these standards, the charging experience is now clearer, more reliable, and faster.

Ultra-fast chargers are becoming the norm, and new vehicles can charge at impressive speeds. Charging your electric car today is almost as quick and easy as refueling in the past.
