Fastned’s Belgian flagship charging plaza Gentbrugge opens

Dutch fast-charging network Fastned has just opened its 47th charging station in Belgium. Fastned Gentbrugge, along the E17 highway between Ghent and Antwerp, is the largest to date and a ‘flagship’ location.

It showcases the company’s aim to deliver a more seamless charging experience, featuring a coffee stop and sanitary facilities throughout its entire network in the future.

That network has expanded to 380 charging locations across nine countries and continues to seek investors to further its growth. Fastned just started a few days ago the tender for a new bond issue. This is the third tranche of bonds that Fastned will issue in 2025. The previous two in 2025 brought in €71 million.

Blueprint for future stations

“Fastned Gentbrugge is the flagship of our network in Belgium, bringing us closer to 50 stations in the country. It is a blueprint for what service areas in Flanders and Wallonia should look like, says Fastned’s CEO and co-founder Michiel Langezaal.

“This year, 25% more electric cars have been sold than last year. That is why we are building long-term infrastructure to offer Belgian drivers the best charging experience; a charging stop to look forward to.”

Fastned Gentbrugge is more than just a place to charge: it’s a stop where you want to stop, the company claims. The refreshment area offers drivers the opportunity to relax, enjoy high-quality catering, and pause in a pleasant, green environment.

In addition to sixteen 400 kW fast chargers under Fastned’s iconic Solar Tree roofs, Fastned Gentbrugge has four fast chargers for electric trucks, a spacious restaurant, and a store with 24/7 self-service facilities.

It also has sanitary facilities, in collaboration with One Hundred Restrooms, offering toilets, hot showers, picnic tables, and a playground in a natural environment.

One Hundred Restrooms is a Dutch company based in Amsterdam, focusing on designing, building, and operating public restrooms with an emphasis on well-being, comfort, hygiene, safety, and a positive user experience. They already have multiple locations (over 80) across Europe where they operate their restroom concepts.

Most sustainable to date

The entire Fastned plaza is designed to be the most sustainable to date. More than 8,000 m² in total is entirely electric (including the kitchen and shop) and emission-free in use, the company claims.

“Parts of both the charging station and the building are easy to disassemble for reuse at the end of their life. Circular materials such as biobased insulation, recycled concrete, and shells have been used in construction. A specially built underground water purification ensures that nature remains untouched, while a ‘green roof’ collects and reuses rainwater, including for flushing the toilets.”

New bond round

By the end of 2025, Fastned expects to have opened 50 stations in Belgium and more than 400 in Europe. It aims to establish a network of 1,000 charging stations by 2030 and continues to seek funding to invest in new stations.

That’s why Fastned is launching a new bond issue in the Netherlands and Belgium. The bonds have a minimum investment of €1,000 each and pay 6% annual interest, distributed quarterly.

This means investors receive cash flow every three months. Example: if you put in €5,000, you’d earn €300 per year (before any tax), paid in four chunks of €75.

Fastned is aiming to raise €100 million via this new bond issue in Belgium & the Netherlands. In 2024, Fastned raised a total of more than €82 million through three separate bond rounds. Two earlier rounds in 2025 raised €71 million already.
