Kia picks Brussels for its Europe-only ‘affordable’ EV2 world premiere

Kia officially confirmed on Tuesday that its all-new EV2 will make its world debut at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show in January 2026, a decision that places Europe firmly at the center of the brand’s electric ambitions.

The EV2 has been designed from the start as a European car. It will be the smallest member of Kia’s EV lineup, positioned beneath the EV3, and tailored to the needs of urban and suburban drivers who want a practical, compact electric vehicle without premium pricing.

Competitive B-segment EV

Kia’s upcoming EV2 will enter one of the most competitive spaces in the European electric-car market: the affordable compact and subcompact EV segment. Its main rivals will include models such as the Citroën ë-C3, Renault 5 E-Tech, and the forthcoming Volkswagen ID.2, as well as Hyundai’s similarly positioned Ioniq 3.

All of these cars target buyers looking for a practical, city-friendly electric vehicle with real-world range and a price that remains accessible to a broad market.

The Renault Twingo E-Tech, which is expected to arrive in 2026 as a sub-€20,000 electric city car, will occupy a different niche: while it may attract budget-focused urban drivers, it is far smaller and simpler than the Kia EV2, meaning it won’t compete directly but rather sits a class below it in size, capability, and everyday versatility.

Affordability is key

Still, affordability is expected to be one of the EV2’s strongest selling points. Though Kia has not yet announced final pricing, industry expectations place the starting price at around €30,000, positioning it above the very cheapest city EVs but below larger and more premium electric SUVs.

This makes the EV2 a strategically important model: an accessible electric crossover with enough space and usability for everyday European driving, priced to make it one of the most appealing new EVs in its class.

The significance of the Brussels Motor Show should not be underestimated. While several major auto shows across Europe have lost momentum in recent years, Brussels has remained one of the continent’s most influential events, especially for electrified models.

BMS’s international relevance

By granting the EV2 its global premiere at the Brussels Motor Show (BMX), Kia highlights both the show’s international relevance and Europe’s central role in the future of the brand’s EV strategy.

Though full specifications are still under wraps, Kia has confirmed that the EV2 will enter production in 2026 at its plant in Žilina, Slovakia – another clear indication that this is a European-led project from concept to showroom.

The design is derived from the EV2 Concept revealed earlier, blending upright SUV styling with a city-friendly footprint. While some of the more futuristic elements of the concept, such as rear-hinged doors or highly modular seating, may not carry over to the production model, the focus on space efficiency, youthful design, and practicality is expected to remain at the core.
