Dutch electric bus manufacturer Ebusco has shared figures from its record year 2022, which saw the launch of the Ebusco 3.0 and an explosive growth to 1 474 e-buses ordered. Ebusco’s workforce also doubled in 2022, but supply chain issues still hinder the company’s revenue.
Ahead of presenting its full-year 2022 revenue figures, Ebusco has offered some details concerning the company’s growth during 2022. The order book for electric buses grew from 325 vehicles in 2021 to 1 474 in 2022, an increase of nearly 400%.
Deutsche Bahn and Ebusco 3.0
That’s largely thanks to a tender from Deutsche Bahn, which sees Ebusco as the leading supplier of electric buses to the German national railway company, which also fields intercity and international bus lines. The agreement is for 2023-2024, with the option to extend to 2025-2026 with a maximum order volume of 800 buses.
2022 also saw the series production launch of the Ebusco 3.0, a composite-based electric bus with an articulated variant that reaches a range of up to 700 km. Ebusco’s workforce also nearly doubled in 2022 from 309 full-time equivalent employees (FTE) to 607 FTE across its Deurne (NL), Frankfurt, and Munich locations.
Supply chain still causing issues
However, even a record year doesn’t come without its challenges, primarily due to supply chain issues causing production delays and increased costs. Some parts have had to be transported by air rather than by sea to meet deadlines. Total production reached 261 buses for the year 2022, compared to a predicted 285 at the beginning of the year.
In Belgium, Ebusco already has a fleet of 12 buses driving around the city of Tienen thanks to a subcontractor of Flemish public transport company De Lijn. These can be charged at the depot overnight thanks to a solar panel and Tesla Megapack combination. Belgian entrepreneur Marc Coucke has also invested in the company.
