Kia has unveiled a new concept car, the Concept EV5, which resembles the recently introduced electric SUV EV9. This more compact model previews a production model later this year, initially destined for the Chinese market.
Kia seems to have found some confidence in its bold styling, first introduced with the EV6 and most recently with the EV9. In addition, the Korean manufacturer has revealed the Concept EV5, a model heavily inspired by the boxy EV9 but with a more compact size.

First dedicated EV for China
The Concept EV5 was unveiled at the Kia Chinese EV Day, as this electric SUV will be the first dedicated EV from Kia for the Chinese market – Kia currently only has the K3 EV in its model range in China, an electric version of the compact sedan also known as the Cerato in Europe.
Kia has given no technical data yet about the Concept EV5, but the brand suggests we won’t have to wait long for more info: a production version is already coming later in 2023.

Blocky design
In terms of exterior design, the Concept EV5 copies the boxy shape of its big brother, the EV9, with a similar ‘Digital Tiger Face’ with slim LED headlights. In addition, the 21-inch wheels get a geometric shape, while the rear is marked by taillights that nearly connect over the Kia logo.
The interior shows this is still a concept car, with swiveling seats front and back, allowing passengers to sit in the open air with the doors opened. The panoramic sunroof doubles as a solar panel for more efficiency, while Kia has focused on using sustainable materials for the upholstery.
As mentioned, the Kia EV5 will get a production version for the Chinese market later this year, although an international release should follow.
