South Korean media report that Kia is delaying the launch of its future electric sedan, the EV4. Originally planned to be on the road before the end of 2024, the production version of the Kia EV4 Concept should be launched by early 2025. Kia didn’t mention any specific reason.
The future Kia EV3, presented in concept form alongside the EV4 during Kia’s EV days in October last year, is still on track to be launched before the summer of 2024.
In October 2023, Kia made the news with its EV Days. During that particular event, it launched the production version of the EV5, a mid-size electric SUV. Besides that new SUV were two concept cars – EV4 Concept and EV3 Concept – announcing the arrival of even more EVs from Kia.
South Korean media now report that during a conference call, Kia Vice President Woo-Jeong Woo announced the delay of the EV4 production. “Electric vehicles are the biggest influence on Kia’s sales and profits. We plan to flexibly respond to market changes in the medium to long term. The EV3, EV4, and EV5 will be launched sequentially, and we are determined to make these three models successful,” said the Vice President.
From 2024 to 2025
The production version of the Kia EV4 is, therefore, delayed from the end of 2024 to early 2025. Kia didn’t mention any additional reason for this delay, but product quality could be cited as one. The future EV4 will be a new electric car genre for Kia, as it presents itself as a compact sedan playing against the likes of sister Hyundai Ioniq 6 and the Tesla Model 3.
EV3 on track
Unveiled simultaneously as the EV4, the future Kia EV3 won’t be delayed. The future electric compact SUV should arrive on the market before summer 2024. Like all other products from Kia under the ‘EV’ sub-brand, it’ll sit on the Hyundai/Kia Group’s E-GMP platform.
Cheaper variants may include new LFP batteries and 400-volt systems, unlike the EV6’s current 800-volt power system, as seen on the Chinese EV5. Kia has already announced that the whole range of EV3, EV4, and EV5 should be launched in global markets with prices ranging from $ 35,000 to $ 50,000.
