New Citroën C3 Aircross also as a hybrid and BEV

Citroën unveils the first images of the all-new C3 Aircross, which shares the same design identity as the C3 hatchback and ambitions to shake up the market with a very competitive pricing positioning. Both models are based on the same Smart Car platform, allowing powertrain flexibility and cost efficiency, Citroën claims.

The new C3 Aircross undergoes a radical change and enters a new scope by adopting a more assertive character, more interior space with up to 7 seats, and an expanded range of engine options. “Combined with a highly competitive pricing positioning, this more mature and muscular version is completely in line with market expectations,” boasts the press release.

New style language, up to 7 seats

“All-new C3 Aircross undergoes a radical change in attitude, transitioning from a model emphasizing roundness and kindness to one that, without being aggressive, exudes a more angular, muscular, and assertive style,” the press release continues.

“C3 Aircross embraces its SUV typology with a high and horizontal hood, widened wings and tracks, and solid shoulders, benefiting from protection that crowns large wheels with a diameter of 690mm.”

The new SUV stays in the B segment but changes its dimensions to reach a length of 4.39 meters, providing greater interior space—the largest in its category. This allows for more legroom for rear passengers.

Another element made possible by the size of the C3 Aircross and by the design of the quarter panel providing a dynamic and vertical rear end: decent habitability for occupants in a third row. This is an innovation in the segment, offering the ability to accommodate up to 7 people onboard with two foldable seats in the trunk.

“C3 Aircross is full of tricks to make family life easier by offering great usage flexibility. However, the car remains very compact for easy maneuvering and stress-free parking. Rational, versatile, and reassuring, the C3 Aircross is an easy-to-live-with SUV.”

Multi-energy offer

This new B SUV shares the Smart Car platform with the C3 hatchback, introduced by Citroën and designed from the start to accommodate an electric offer optimally. So, the C3 Aircross is offering, for the first time, a hybridization option alongside a traditional thermal offer. Furthermore, an affordable all-electric powertrain produced in Europe will also be available.

The manufacturer gives no more technical details yet, but surely the technical site will be very close to almost identical to that of the Peugeot 2008.

Set to be launched by summer, the all-new C3 Aircross wants to offer a new vision of the compact European SUV in a major market. Since 2020, B-SUV sales have overpassed those of B-segment hatchbacks in Europe. Sales exceed 2 million registrations each year in an increasingly competitive market.

“In mid-2024, Citroën will unveil the new C3 Aircross, which has been completely reinvented to meet families’ expectations. It has a completely new dimension with powerful, assertive styling, more space on board, modularity with the capacity to accommodate up to 7 people, electrified offerings from hybrid to 100% electric, and comfort and connectivity on board,” resumes the press release. More information will be shared closer to the launch.
