MG has opened the order books for its newest electric SUV in Europe: the MGS5 EV. This succeeds the ZS EV, which kicked off the nameplate’s renaissance in Europe.
The MGS5 EV is still an electric SUV, but boasts improvements in pretty much all areas without touching the affordable price tag.
MG, the former British Morris Garages, returned to Europe under the Chinese SAIC Group’s umbrella in 2019 with the ZS EV, an affordable electric SUV in a sparsely populated segment. Now, its successor is ready to take the baton with the same core recipe.
New rear-wheel drive platform
The MGS5 EV was first presented as the MG ES5 in China in October 2024, before landing on UK shores as the MGS5 EV in April 2025.
The compact electric SUV is preparing to embark on the European continent. MG has opened the order books and has already announced pricing for select markets.
MG’s newest electric SUV is based on the same MG Modular Scalable Platform as the MG4 hatchback. It has a rear-mounted 170 kW (231 hp) electric motor that promises more exciting performance (0-100 km/h in 6.3 seconds) and better handling.

Up to 480 km range
Unlike the MG4, however, the MGS5 EV will not be available with a 77 kWh battery. The options are limited to 49 kWh for the base Standard Range model, or 64 kWh for the Long Range variant, which manages up to 480 km of WLTP range, compared to 520 km for the 77 kWh MG4.
However, you won’t have to wait long for a recharge: a 10 to 80 percent quick-charge takes 24 to 28 minutes, respectively (120 or 139 kW DC).
On the inside, passengers are treated to a new 12.8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and popular apps like YouTube, Spotify, and TikTok built in.
Other features include physical climate control buttons and a configurable MG Pilot Custom function to quickly (de)activate specific driver assist features (ADAS).
