MG realizes strong growth on Belgian and European market

In the first quarter of 2025, the Chinese manufacturer MG realized substantial growth in Europe and the Belgian car market. In Europe, it sold 78,505 cars during Q1, a 33.5% increase in sales compared to 2024. In Belgium, MG registered 35% more registrations in the same period.

With the noticeable progress of another Chinese brand, BYD, we tend to overlook MG’s strong foothold in our markets, where it is still the number one Chinese player. From now on, MG will also be present in the Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian markets.

More hybrids

MG’s total market share in Europe also rose, from 1.7% in Q1 2024 to 2.3% in Q1 2025. The venue for new, important models on the European market stimulated this performance. Most were plug-in hybrids, like the MG3 Hybrid+, the new HS, and the ZS Hybrid+. The demand for the fully electric MG4 also remained high.

In Q1 2025, the ZS Hybrid+ was the best-selling hybrid in the United Kingdom and was also very popular all over Europe. The expansion into the Baltic countries is fueled by a collaboration with Modys Group Autobrava, the official importer and distributor for MG in the three states.

Successful Belgian market

2025 began very well for MG in Belgium; the Brussels Motor Show was a real hit for the brand. The presence at the show resulted in more than 2,000 sales for the first quarter, a new record. The MG3 and the ZS Hybrid+ were the most popular, and the HS PHEV also registered excellent sales scores.

Noticeably, the all-electric Cyberster sports car was sold more than a hundred times during these first three months. From now on, another newcomer reinforces the MG offer: the brand new and fully electric MG S5. The HS Hybrid+ will join him in the showrooms in July, and in September, the full-electric MG S6 will appear.

Obviously, the combined offer of full-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles is a hit on the Belgian market too, and the Chinese MG brand has developed itself into one of the strongholds for the Belgian importer Astara Western Europe.
