Applicants and young employees are still interested in a company car. That is what 68% of fleet and mobility managers confirmed in the new Company Car Report organized by Mobia, the mobility federation of Febiac, Traxio, and Renta.
According to the questioned managers, 21% of youngsters have a neutral attitude toward the company car, and hardly 11% show no interest at all. The figures provide a clear answer to the sector confronted with increasingly complex legislation, electrification, and alternative mobility.
First choice
The car remains the first choice in terms of individual mobility, so, in the context of the ‘war for talent’, the company car remains particularly attractive, even for the younger generations.
For fleet managers, it is an increasingly complex exercise because they must constantly find the right balance between compliance with employee satisfaction, the budgets set by the company, and the need for (more expensive) electrification. The Company Car Report also shows that the sector tends to push its employees toward electrification.
Charging infrastructure
Even though the associated costs are mentioned as a major obstacle, companies invest massively in charging infrastructure. Almost three out of four companies already have charging stations on their sites, and a similar trend is seen in SMEs.
More than half (56%) have already invested in charging infrastructure at employees’ homes. A significant increase compared to previous years: 33% in 2020-2021 and only 14% in 2019.
Double strategy
Another remarkable trend the Company Car Report reveals is the double strategy when it comes to employees’ mobility. After all, in addition to electrification, there is an increasing willingness to make other modes of transport available to employees. Today, 30% of companies already offer a mobility budget, and 37% indicate they would like to do so in the future.
It is no surprise that the bicycle emerges as the first and most popular alternative to the car, followed closely by measures that promote teleworking; public transport some in third place.
Who’s Mobia?
Mobia is a joint organization of three mobility federations: the Belgian car federation Febiac, the mobility organization Traxio, and the leasing federation Renta. Together, they represent 10 000 companies, 160 000 employees, and 2,6% of the Belgian GNP.
