Belgian Specter introduces 170 km ‘long-range’ speed pedelec

Specter, a Belgian start-up with a production unit in Wondelgem (East Flanders), designs and builds unique, high-end, lightweight, and connected speed pedelecs. On Tuesday, the company introduced a ‘long-range’ version of its Specter 1 speed pedelec, launched end of 2022.

The vehicle has an increased driving range of up to 170 kilometers. It is equipped with both-wheel drive and impressive combined power to offer an unrivaled driving sensation over even longer journeys.

Carbon fiber

However, the design of the Specter 1 remained unchanged. The frame, front fork, seat post, and handlebars are made of carbon fiber. This has a favorable effect on the weight (19,8 kg for the Specter 1, and 26,2 kg for the long-range version, and also benefits the structural rigidity of the bicycle.

The battery capacity is boosted to an astonishing 1 200 Wh, up from the already generous 750 Wh in the Specter 1, resulting in a theoretical driving range of 65 to 170 kilometers, depending on the chosen route and the level of assistance, an increase of up to 66%.

Two-wheel drive

Apart from the extended driving range, the Specter 1 Long Range also gets more traction and drive on both wheels by adding a front-wheel motor (with 35 Nm of torque) on top of the standard mid-mounted motor with 110 Nm of torque, with the motor control mainly focusing on dynamics by sending most of the power to the rear wheel.

Owners of a Specter 1 can upgrade their vehicle to the Long Range variant for 1 000 euros. If they introduce a new Specter customer, the conversion is free via the ‘member-gets-member’ principle.

Connected and updated

The cockpit, integrated into the steering wheel, provides all crucial information via a high-resolution screen: turn-by-turn navigation, Spotify integration, weather forecast, current wind information, and battery percentage. The bicycle is always connected and updated thanks to the built-in 4G connection.

The Specter 1 Long Range can be ordered via pre-order from €10 690; delivery is scheduled for September 2023. The standard Specter 1 can be ordered from €8 990 and is immediately available. Each vehicle is electronically limited to the legal maximum speed of 45 km/hour.
