Twelve nurses of the ‘Wit-Gele Kruis’ in Hasselt (Limburg) use leased electric bicycles to visit and take care of their patients in the city center. This way, they can avoid the hustle and bustle of the city and their eternal search for a parking space. The home nursing service has decided to invest 20 000 euro annually in the initiative.
Traffic in the city is becoming more and more dense. Health visitors end up in traffic jams, and it’s hard to find a parking place once they’ve arrived at their destination. That is why the organization decided to invest in e-bikes.
Leased e-bikes
The bikes are leased, and the Wit-Gele Kruis health visitors can use them for work or private trips. The company provides maintenance and roadside assistance. The twelve cycling nurses also received a bicycle helmet, cell phone holder, and a saddlebag.
Bicycle center Fietsen Wildiers supplied the yellow e-bikes. “The bikes are reliable, comfortable, and easy to maintain,” explains Jan Van Rooy, Fietsen Wildiers.
Lease a Bike is responsible for the leasing contract. The first twelve health visitors are already cycling around in the city center of Hasselt; the second batch of twelve will join them in autumn.
