Chinese premium carmaker NIO is pushing two more models – the EL6 and ET5 Touring – to Europe, at least in those countries where it is already present: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands.
The EL6 – called ES6 in China – is a slightly smaller SUV than its EL7 sibling at a somewhat lower price of € 55 900 with a rented 75 kWh battery at €169 a month. And the sleek ET5 gets a Touring variant, starting in the Netherlands at € 51 900 with the same options for renting a 75 or 100-kWh battery. The latter is at €289 per month.

NIO likes to play in the highest categories and compete with Europe’s premium cars, as we found out driving the ET7; these new models are no exception. The EL6, with 4 854 mm length, 1 995 mm width, and 1 703 mm height, is a compact SUV with ample space inside thanks to a wheelbase of 2 915 mm.
Again, no shortage of power with dual-motor AWD, combining 150 kW in the front with 210 kW in the rear or a total of 360 kW or 482 horses. With a whopping 700 Nm of torque, the EL6 accelerates from 0 to 100 in 4,5 seconds. The EL6 can handle trailers up to 1 200 kg if you choose an optional electric foldable towing hook.
With a 75 kWh battery, you’ll get a range of 406 km (WLTP); 529 with the bigger 100 kWh battery. Later the 150 kWh battery will also be available, but the Chinese market gets priority for now.
Like all NIOs, this one is also packed with all thinkable luxury, like 22-fold adjustable seats in the front with heating, ventilation, and massage if you go for the second-generation Lounge Seats with extra Lounge Mode and Recline Position. A giant – electric opening – panorama roof comes standard.

Think about all possible Advanced Driver Aid Systems (ADAS) as a standard, with NIO’s AQUILA Super Sensing with 33 sensors, radar, and LiDAR, Assisted and Intelligent Driving (NAD) with nine drive modes, and the Intelligent Chassis Controller (ICC) working with Continuous Damping Control (CDC) for ultimate ride comfort.
Sleek shooting brake
The second model available for ordering from the 15th of June is the shooting brake or ‘Touring’ version of the ET5. The latter is the smaller variant of NIO’s flagship sedan, the ET7, and comes virtually with all the same power and features. Like the EL6, it has the same 4WD and 360 kWh power available, making it, with 4.0 seconds, a fraction faster in the sprint, thanks to the lower weight.
Contrary to the current SUV hype in Europe, the Chinese premium ev-maker offers a sleek shooting brake again. This body variant used to be particularly popular in Europe for many years. It provides the convenience of lots of luggage room of 450 to 1 300 liters (with folded-down back seats), plus an additional 42 liters under the trunk floor without the ‘overweight’ of a plumpy SUV.
