Iveco eDaily tows 153 tons setting new Guinness World Record

Iveco has shown off the strength of its electric Daily with a bit of towing exercise. The eDaily managed to tow a heavy truck carrying a digger, a construction truck filled with rocks, and a fire truck along a short section of runway, setting a new Guinness World Record for ‘Heaviest weight towed by an electric van’.

Of course, the record is not a remarkable feat – there was no previous record for towing an electric van, so there is no target to beat. Still, with a total towing weight of 153,58 tons, the Iveco eDaily impressed, as the rated towing weight is only 3,5 tons.

Strongman behind the wheel

To set the record, Iveco called on British strongman Adam Bishop, an expert in lifting heavy things. His records are a 453,5 kg and 490 kg Hummer tire deadlift. He was tasked to guide the road train over a 100 feet (30,48 m) stretch of road, which he managed to do using the eDaily’s hi-power mode, utilizing the total 140 kW (190 hp) and 400 Nm of torque available. Still, Bishop had to floor the power pedal to crawl along the runway.

There is no Guinness World Record set for towing with a combustion-powered van to compare with. Still, there are records for ‘Heaviest weight towed by an electric car’ (130 tons, Tesla Model X towing a Boeing 787-9) and for ‘Heaviest aircraft pulled by a production car’ (284 tons, Porsche Cayenne towing an Airbus A380).

Heavy-duty electric van

To recall, the Iveco eDaily was launched in 2022 and is built on a ladder-frame chassis, with up to three battery packs of 37 kWh each, achieving a range of up to 400 km in the WLTP City cycle. Like its ICE-based counterpart, the eDaily impresses with its capabilities. It manages up to a 4,6-ton payload, 20,3 m³ of cargo space, and the previously mentioned 3,5-ton towing capacity.
