Chinese state-owned carmaker Chery Automobile is coming to Germany in 2024 with three brands, offering a mix of models, price points, and even drive types, with both ICE and EV cars on offer. Should the launch succeed, a local production site is also considered.
The report comes from the German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche, which says that Chery Automobile plans to launch in Germany in the Spring of 2024. Three of the Chinese group’s brands, Omoda, Jaecoo, and Exlantix, are to bring a diverse model range to compete with the local manufacturers.
Omoda, Jaecoo, and Exlantix
Omoda rings a bell, as this brand also intends to launch in the Benelux. It has the Omoda 5 SUV, available in both ICE and EV variants, with a starting price of around €40 000 for the electric version.
Jaecoo also offers SUVs with a more robust look and a focus on plug-in hybrid (PHEV) drivetrains. The compact Jaecoo 7 and the larger Jaecoo 8 are likely the first two models on offer.

Finally, Chery hopes to conquer Germany with the EV-only Exlantix brand, previously known as Exeed. This brand offers more premium vehicles, with the large E0Y SUV and the E03 sedan, with a length of around 4.90 m and a range of more than 500 km.
European expansion
Chery is already present in Europe, thanks to market entries in Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, and Italy, where it has been selling affordable SUVs under the DR brand since 2006. The German launch is scheduled for Spring 2024, around the same time as the Benelux market launch.
