Belgian Shell NV, Carrefour Belgium, and real estate company Redevco will install approximately 1 000 charging stations in the supermarket chain’s car parks by the end of 2024. On Thursday, November 14th, the 100th charging point was officially inaugurated on the parking grounds of the Carrefour hypermarket in Korbeek-Lo.
Between now and 2025, almost 500 charging stations will be installed, capable of charging more than 1 000 vehicles simultaneously.
Regular and fast chargers
The rollout of the new Shell Recharge charging points started in July 2023. Currently, there are 100 charging stations available at the Carrefour car parks in Borsbeek, Ninove, Grimbergen, Koksijde, Kuringen, Hasselt, and Edegem Molenveld.
The charging stations have a capacity of 22 kW (regular) to 150 kW (fast chargers), allowing an electric vehicle to be charged in just a few minutes. With a fast charger, the battery charges an average of 20 to 80% in 25 minutes – about the time people need for shopping.
‘Accelerate energy transition’
Christophe Vaessen, Chairman and Managing Director of Belgian Shell: “By expanding our network, we can make electric driving more attractive. Collaborations with companies such as Carrefour are essential to accelerate the energy transition in our country.”
Geoffroy Gersdorff, CEO of Carrefour Belgium: “We want to offer customers the opportunity to make more sustainable choices, in the store and beyond. Thanks to the charging stations in our car parks, they can charge their car while shopping.”
