EnergyVision wins contract for 5,000 Belgian rail charging points

Energy provider Energy Vision is permitted to install 2,500 charging stations for electric cars at the railway company NMBS/SNCB’s station car parks. This was reported by the newspaper De Tijd. The charging stations, with a total of 5,000 charging points (with the possibility of expansion), are expected to be operational by 2032.

The project involves a concession for the installation, operation, and financing over ten yearsThe concession covers a total of 103,666 parking spaces spread across the NMBS network. Of these, an estimated 49,726 to 73,496 are eligible for the installation of charging points.

“With this contract, EnergyVision expects to be able to achieve its previous objectives of increasing the number of charging points in Belgium from 2,500 to 10,000 in the medium term,” the company states.

The railway company operates 522 stations with parking facilities, providing a total of approximately 75,000 parking spaces. A first concession was awarded in 2020 to the Dutch charging station company Allego, which now operates the charging infrastructure at 35 station car parks.
