As the guardian of the iconic British brand name MG, the now Chinese brand from SAIC Motors is trying to steal the show at the Goodwood Festival of Speed these days with a bunch of new models and concepts. Next to a Cyberster Black version of its ‘hot’ EV roadster and a concept of a boxy Cyber X city SUV, a possible BMW i5 challenger, MG IM5 sedan, and IM6 SUV are the eye-catchers.
The MG IM5 Executive Saloon and MG IM6 SUV are part of MG’s new ‘IM Motors’ line, which stands for “Intelligence in Motion“. SAIC Motor developed it in collaboration with partners, including the Chinese Amazon peer, Alibaba, on an advanced 800-volt electric platform.

It’s the world-renowned ‘Festival of Speed’ at Goodwood, and with those new fully electric MGs, the brand won’t have to blush: 4WD, 572 kW (or 778 hp) of power, and accelerating in 3.2 seconds to 100 km/h are the figures to brag with for the IM5.
Compared to BMW’s top performance model in the i5 Series, the BMW i5 M60 xDrive 84kWh with 442 kW (601 hp) and 3.8 seconds acceleration figures, that’s impressive. Notably, the top version of the MG IM5 is priced at £48,495 (€56,231) all-in in the UK, whereas the BMW competitor’s starting price is £96,840 (€112,288), with options increasing the price to over £120,000 (€139,000).
Not hindered by tariffs
The UK has not imposed additional tariffs on electric vehicle (EV) imports from China, unlike the European Union and the United States. Hence, MG is eligible for the normal 10% import tax. In China, the IM5 sibling is called the IM L6 sedan, launched in May 2025 and ranging between 216,900 and 279,900 yuan (€25,795 to €33,425). One keeps wondering how they do it.
Hold your horses, if you plan to rush to the dealership. MG is introducing the ‘new’ models only in the UK for the time being, not specifying whether it envisions the other European markets for now. In the UK, the IM5 and IM6 are offered in three variants each with a choice of 75kWh and 100KwH batteries as well as single and dual motor options.
Those battery packs offer ranges from 490 to 654 km (WLTP). The latter in the ‘Platinum’ mid-range version with single rear-wheel drive (RWD) electric motor delivering 300 kW (402 hp) of power. For the heavier SUV, the ranges vary between 450 and 555 km. Sitting on an 800V architecture, all are capable of delivering a 10 to 80 percent charge in just 17 minutes.

MG and partners claim ‘Intelligence in Motion’ for their products. In this case, Intelligent Safety includes a sophisticated Continental braking system that can stop the car from 100km/h in just 33.8m. High-speed maneuvering, MG says, is taken to a new level with Hydroplaning Stability Control, which reduces drifting or sliding by nearly 80% compared to traditional ESC systems.
Rainy Night Mode
Another nice gimmick is the MG IM5’s Rainy Night Mode, which enhances visibility in extreme conditions, clearly replicating your immediate surroundings, including pedestrians and other vehicles, on screen, free from rain interference. And four-mode One Touch Park Assist, which utilises the car’s 360-degree cameras and autonomous driving capabilities to perform complex parking manoeuvres automatically.

Besides the new models for the UK, MG lashes out at Goodwood with the Cyber X and Cyberster Black. The roadster’s sportive design has full play in this new deep black paint.
It is enhanced with ultra-fine glass particles that create a subtle sparkle. Using a premium paint process usually reserved for luxury cars, MG claims, the finish appears matte and smooth when still, but comes to life with a shimmering effect in motion.

On the other hand, with its matte grey finish and pop-up headlights, the Cyber X concept shown in Goodwood reveals a new direction for the brand’s design language. “This compact, all-electric urban explorer captures the creative spirit of MG’s emerging ‘Cyber’ sub-brand, combining rugged styling with a city-focused edge”, the press release says.
