Mazda presents its European charging app

‘Mazda Charging’ is designed to give European Mazda drivers easier access to public charging. It is developed in partnership with the Swiss company autoSense. Its launch coincides with that of the new Mazda6e, which has now arrived for delivery in Europe.

The dedicated app is rolling out across Europe this month, and according to Mazda, will provide access to hundreds of thousands of public charging points across Europe – although it’s not clear which networks this will encompass or what types of chargers will be available.  The app was delivered by the Zurich-based autoSense AG, a specialist in app-based automotive charging solutions..

Effortless

The app is available on iOS or Android, and provides real-time information on charging station availability, power output, and pricing. Drivers can use the app to book and pay for charging with a variety of payment options. Mazda says it also plans to make an RFID charging card (Radio-Frequency IDentification) available for non-smartphone charging.

Jaap Vossen, CEO of autoSense AG, said: “We are proud to be able to offer Mazda Charging, one of the most attractive commercial and technical solutions in the field of electric mobility, in our home country of Switzerland. This partnership with Mazda is an important step toward strengthening our presence in European markets.”

“Charging your Mazda should feel just as effortless as driving it,” said Martijn ten Brink, CEO, Mazda Motor Europe. “With Mazda Charging, an app will be launched that’s intuitive, convenient, and integrated into Mazda customers’ everyday journeys.”

Additional features beyond public charging are planned for a rollout soon, such as charging optimized for cost efficiency or the use of green energy. The Mazda Charging App is available for download now. Drivers can create an account, add a payment method, and start charging. In-app customer support by autoSense is available whenever assistance is needed.

The app launch coincides wit the arrival of the new fully electric Mazda 6e on the European market. That’s no coincidence as the aim of Mazda’s first fully electric sedan is to deliver comfortable, enjoyable, and effortless driving and an app like this has to provide the same feeling when charging energy is needed.
