The city of Hasselt (Limburg) wants to make car sharing more attractive by temporarily, until December 15, 2025, reimbursing the start-up costs. Anyone who registers as a new user with Cambio or Cozywheels will receive a refund of their connection fees for the time being. At Cambio, the registration fee is 35 euros; at Cozywheels, it is 25 euros.
In this way, the city aims to introduce more residents to the benefits of shared driving and, in the long term, reduce the number of cars in the city center and contribute to more sustainable mobility.
More accessible than ever
“With this campaign, we make car sharing more accessible than ever,” says Alderman for Mobility Kevin Schouterden. “Residents can try it out free of charge and experience how convenient, affordable, and sustainable car sharing is in practice.”
A new feature is that novice drivers can gain driving experience in a special Cambio training car. “No additional insurance is required, but drivers are expected to have at least six hours of basic driving experience,” Schouterden concludes. “The driving test can also be taken with a Cambio shared car.”
What exactly is car sharing?
Car sharing allows multiple individuals or families to use the exact vehicle. It is a more sustainable alternative to owning a car. Sharing a car reduces the number of vehicles, reduces parking pressure, and also shares costs.
Moreover, the car is used more efficiently. It’s an attractive solution for those who don’t own a car but need one occasionally, and for those who want to drive more economically and environmentally.
