WeCar, Brussels mothers’ solution to facilitate carpooling for parents

Two Brussels mothers have launched WeCar.mobi, a free carpooling platform designed to make life a lot easier for parents. The platform enables you to coordinate carpooling for private groups, such as after-school activities, birthday parties, or sports matches, while also reducing your individual carbon footprint by sharing rides.

Arranging transportation for your children to school and activities can sometimes cause parents considerable headaches and stress. According to a study by the League of Families, for example, more than half of parents (52%) consider mobility to be a source of stress.

Closed group

WeCar.mobi can be a valuable and practical tool for easing the logistics and lives of many families. In just a few clicks, parents, teachers, or coaches can coordinate carpooling for a private group for sporting, extracurricular, scouting, or festive events.

How does it work? It’s straightforward. First, create a carpool on WeCar.mobi, then send an invitation link via WhatsApp or email to your group. People within that community can then offer to drive or reserve a seat for your child in the car of another parent who has offered to carpool.

Only individuals who have received the link can join the group, ensuring a closed, safe, and trusted environment. Instead of having to wade through dozens of WhatsApp messages to organize a shuttle service for your kids, everything is centralized in one place, and you can immediately see if there is a seat available in a car for your child or if it is better to drive yourself and offer available seats in your vehicle.

No app yet

“With WeCar.mobi, we want to give parents a simple, effective, and completely free tool that makes their daily lives easier, while promoting solidarity and reducing families’ ecological footprint,” says Charlotte Depuis, who founded WeCar.mobi together with Sibylle Regout.

The only downside is that there is currently no sign of the app in the Apple App Store or Google Play, which may indicate that the project might still be in pilot or early development stage rather than fully operational at scale. You can find the internet link here.

There are already several carpooling initiatives, such as Carpool.be. Still, for sharing rides within groups or for events, a fee is always agreed upon between passengers and drivers, whereas WeCar is free.
