Ford updates Puma Gen-E for 2026: longer range, increased driver assistance

Ford has revealed details of the updated Puma Gen-E for 2026. The electric compact crossover is set to gain an increased range of more than 400 km thanks to a battery update, as well as Ford’s driver assistance system, BlueCruise.

Although Ford has claimed the Gen-E will “become even better”, its announcement remains short on details. We know the battery has been redesigned, enabling an increased range from 376 to more than 400 km, as well as, according to Ford, an urban driving range of over 550 km.

However, Ford hasn’t specified exactly what the battery changes are or what its future energy content will be, which currently sits at 43 kWh. It therefore remains unclear whether other cells with a higher energy density will be used or whether the battery pack’s structure has been changed to accommodate more cells of the same type. With around 7% more range, however, it stands to reason that the cells’ energy density plays an important role.

BlueCruise

The other headline addition is Ford’s BlueCruise driver assistance system. This semi-autonomous driving software enables hands-free driving on designated ‘blue route’ highways, which total more than 135,000 km across Europe.

Ford has stated that three other new vehicles will also feature BlueCruise. Drivers must purchase the Driver Assistance Pack for their Puma Gen-E to obtain the system.

There’s no word yet on pricing or subscription options, only that the new Puma Gen-E will be available from Spring 2026. Further details are still to be confirmed, although Ford has said this will take place “closer to the on-sale date”.

“We’re pleased with how Puma Gen-E has been received by our customers in Europe, building on the best-selling success of Puma, which proves it has a winning set of attributes,” said Jon Williams, general manager, Ford Blue and Model e, Europe.

“Now we’re taking Puma Gen-E to another level, with even better range and the game-changing BlueCruise advanced driver assistance system, making big-car technology available to buyers with a smaller budget.”
