The German company Siemens Energy, which specializes in energy technology and has grown into one of the most valuable companies on the Frankfurt stock exchange, is changing its name.
In the future, the current entities Siemens Energy and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will be united under a single name and brand umbrella: Omterra. The rebranding process is scheduled to begin later this calendar year and will be implemented in stages.
More than a cosmetic rebranding
Omterra is an invented word, making it easier to register and protect as a trademark. The Omterra name change is more than a cosmetic rebranding. It marks the final stage in Siemens Energy’s independence from Siemens AG and the creation of a single identity for one of the world’s largest energy technology groups.
With Omterra, Siemens Energy is deliberately choosing an independent brand with global appeal. The new name reflects the company’s global footprint, its technological expertise, and its commitment to contributing to reliable energy supplies worldwide. The company’s strategic direction, however, remains unchanged for customers, business partners, and employees.
Strategically important electricity supplier
Siemens Energy operates in more than ninety countries worldwide, including Belgium (Huizingen). The company manufactures gas and steam turbines, generators, wind turbines, and equipment for energy transmission.
In Belgium, the company is involved in critical electricity infrastructure, including the ALEGrO and Nemo Link interconnectors. The group is also working with Belgian grid operator Elia on gas-insulated high-voltage equipment in Vilvoorde that avoids the use of highly polluting fluorinated gases such as SF6.
Siemens Energy is also involved in technical support and equipment for Belgian offshore wind installations. The company is therefore not a major Belgian employer, but it remains a strategically important supplier for electricity interconnectors, grid expansion and offshore energy.
Branding risk
Siemens Energy is one of the world’s leading energy technology companies. The company works on energy systems for the future, thus supporting the transition to a more sustainable world.
The rebranding comes at a strong moment for the energy equipment manufacturer. Siemens Energy employs around 105,000 people in more than 90 countries and generated revenue of approximately €39.1 billion in its 2025 financial year. The company says its technologies are involved in around one-sixth of the world’s electricity generation.
The move nevertheless carries a branding risk. Siemens is one of the best-known names in global engineering and has been associated with industrial technology for almost two centuries. Omterra begins without that recognition and will need to build credibility with utilities, governments, and industrial customers.
