The board of directors of parent company Lufthansa has appointed Lorenza Maggio as the new CEO of Brussels Airlines. Maggio will replace Dorothea von Boxberg, who is leaving the company on August 31 to join BMW.

Maggio (48), an Italian national, has been a member of the ITA Airways board of directors since January 2025, serving as Chief Strategy and Integration Officer, overseeing the integration of the Italian airline into the Lufthansa Group and its strategic development.

Eurowings and the LSG Group

Previously, Maggio served as Vice President of Sales, responsible for the Lufthansa Group’s network in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

She also worked at Eurowings and the LSG Group, two subsidiaries of the Lufthansa Group – the low-cost division and the catering division, respectively.

Extensive experience, “Lorenzo Maggio is a successful executive with international experience,” says Belgian Dieter Vranckx, chairman of the board of directors of Brussels Airlines and CCO of Lufthansa. “She knows the aviation sector and our group thanks to various management positions at several companies.

European Commission

With her expertise, she will lead Brussels Airlines as an integrated network airline within the Lufthansa Group. In addition to serving as CEO, Maggio will also represent the board of directors at the European Commission. The date of Maggio’s move to Brussels will be set shortly.

Her appointment still needs to be approved by the board of directors of SN Airholding, which is essentially a formality.
