The rapidly growing Ghent-based energy company EnergyVision is taking over the supply of gas and electricity to households from DATS 24, a subsidiary of Virya Energy, the energy division of the Colruyt retail group.
The acquisition covers approximately 33,000 connection points (EANs), corresponding to about 18,000 customers. The exact purchase price has not been disclosed.
‘Largest Belgian-owned energy supplier’
EnergyVision appears determined to continue its expansion as a residential energy supplier in Flanders. With the acquisition of DATS 24’s retail gas and electricity operations, it is increasing its market share from 3 to 3,5%.
At the beginning of 2026, that figure was still 2%. The company says this makes it “the country’s largest Belgian-owned energy supplier.” It is also part of a broader growth trend: it recently acquired the hydropower company Turbulent as well.
The company also recently secured two major contracts: one with NMBS/SNCB to equip all 420 stations with parking lots with charging stations by 2027 – amounting to about 5,000 charging spots – and the other with the Flemish government for the deployment of more than 5,2000 charging stations.
Focus on core business for DATS 24
DATS 24, on the other hand, wants to focus on its core business: fueling and electric charging. Paul Tummers, CEL of Virya Energy, the parent company of DATS 24, therefore calls the move a “forward-looking choice, not a retreat.”
“We’re concentrating our efforts where Virya makes a difference: investing in assets for renewable energy generation, green hydrogen, electric charging, and DATS 24’s mobility services.”
Over 1,000 charging stations at Colruyt stores
There are already more than 1,000 charging stations at Colruyt Group stores, typically consisting of a charging station with two charging points, each with a maximum charging capacity of 11 kW.
In addition, DATS 24 is also installing an increasing number of fast chargers: standard charging points with a maximum capacity of 22 kW, fast chargers up to 150 kW, and at some locations even up to 400 kW.
In addition to its own charging stations, DATS 24 partners with third-party operators, which means that with the DATS 24 charging card, you can access 90,000 Belgian charging points – about 9 out of 10 of all charging stations in the country – and 500,000 European charging points.
For existing DATS 24 customers, both companies promise continuity of energy supply throughout the entire acquisition process.
