Opel Astra Electric unwrapped: orders open spring 2023

Opel has unveiled the Electric version of the latest Astra, with similar specs to its closely related cousin, the Peugeot e-308. The Opel Astra Electric is available as a hatchback and an estate version, with WLTP ranges of up to 416 km.

After launching the PHEV versions of the Astra first, including a sporty Astra GSe, Opel has unveiled its compact car’s fully-electric version. The technical aspects of the Astra Electric are borrowed from the Peugeot e-308: the new-gen 156 hp and 270 Nm electric motor powers the front axle, with a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery promising up to 416 km of WLTP range.

No compromises

Opel mentions a consumption figure of 14,9 kWh/100 km and a charging speed of 30 minutes to 80 percent at a 100 kW fast charging station. AC charging can be done up to 11 kW thanks to the standard three-phase onboard charger.

Opel also promises an engaging driving experience, thanks to the instantly available power, but also with this amusing phrase: “While many other electric cars are limited to 150 or 160 km/hour, the new Astra Electric has a top speed of 170 km/hour.” That should seal the deal.

The Astra Electric is also available as a more practical Sports Tourer, which boasts a trunk space of 516 to 1 553 liters thanks to the batteries placed in the underbody.

Other features are shared with the combustion-powered Astras, such as the AGR-certified sports seats, the two 10-inch displays on the dashboard, a head-up display, and the Intelli-Lux LED headlights. In addition, the Astra Electric gets 18-inch alloy wheels as standard. It will be available to order from spring 2023. Pricing has not yet been announced.
