Voyah Courage kicks off global journey, charges into Norway first

Shipments of the Voyah Courage, Dongfeng Motor’s premium electric SUV, have officially kicked off. The first batch of vehicles has left China for Europe. The car is Voyah’s first global EV and will debut in Norway before launching in other European markets.

The first batch of vehicles departed for Norway via the China-Europe freight train, marking the beginning of the brand’s European expansion. The Courage made its overseas debut earlier this year at the Turin Auto Show in Italy and was later showcased at the Oslo Motor Show in Norway.

Distribution by Ghistelinck

It will enter the Norwegian, Swedish, and Finnish markets first and must launch the brand in new markets. In Belgium, the brand is distributed by the Ghistelinck group, which opened a showroom in Eke, near Ghent, late last year. The Courage is expected to soon join the showroom next to the SUV Dream and the MPV Free.

The Courage officially received the EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval (EWVTA) certification in December last year, granting it access to all 27 EU member states and several non-EU markets such as Norway, Switzerland, and Israel. This achievement marks a major milestone for the brand’s global ambitions under its “Let’s Voyah” strategy, which aims to deploy Voyah vehicles across six continents and 60 countries by 2030.

Competitor for Model Y

The Courage is Voyah’s first pure electric model for global markets. It has competitive dimensions and features designed to meet international standards. The Courage targets the newly refreshed Tesla Model Y Juniper as its main competitor, measuring 4,725 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and up to 1,653 mm in height, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase.

Likewise, Voyah offers both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations and three battery options. These include 77 kWh and 79 kWh packs for shorter ranges and an impressive 109 kWh battery. With its cutting-edge 800 volts and 5C fast-charging technology (the term ‘5C’ refers to a charge rate that is five times the battery’s nominal capacity), the Courage can achieve a 515-kilometer range in just 15 minutes of charging, setting a benchmark for convenience and efficiency.

High-tech approach

Inside, the Courage boasts a high-tech cockpit that includes a 6-inch instrument panel, a 29-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD), and a 15.05-inch OLED sliding screen. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295P chip, the system is compatible with iOS, Android, and Huawei Harmony and aims for seamless integration with a wide range of devices.

Regarding intelligent driving, the SUV is equipped with Navigation on Autopilot, supported by an advanced sensor system that includes five millimeter-wave radars and ten cameras. This allows for features such as remote parking assistance, autonomous parking, and even remote vehicle moving.

The Voyah Courage represents a considerable step forward for Dongfeng Motor as it seeks to establish a foothold in the competitive European market. The Norwegian launch is just the beginning of what the company hopes will be a global success story. Parent company Dongfeng is less handcuffed than fellow car makes by the extra import tariffs, having settled for 17,0%.
