All-new Jeep Compass debuts in Europe first

Today, the all-new Jeep Compass debuted in Italy and will be manufactured at the Melfi plant, a key hub for Stellantis’ electrification strategy.

The new Compass evolves with an expanded engine range, which includes three powertrain options: e-Hybrid, e-Hybrid plug-in, and full electric with up to 650 km range. The latter also offers four-wheel drive.

“The new Compass design has been meticulously crafted to deliver enhanced performance and iconic style,” says the press release. “The next Jeep Compass stays true to the brand’s storied legacy, with features such as the unmistakable seven-slot grille, trapezoidal wheel arches, and rugged cladding that’s thoughtfully integrated to honor the brand’s heritage while ensuring the vehicle retains its off-road prowess and signature look.”

Stellantis STLA Medium platform

Built upon the Stellantis STLA Medium platform, tuned to offer a space-efficient formula and 4.55m total length, the New Compass is one of the more compact vehicles manufactured from the platform while delivering 55 mm of additional legroom.

The next-generation Compass offers more space with an increased 34-liter front interior storage compartment and an increased boot capacity by 45 liters, reaching up to 550 liters.

Other Stellantis cars on the same platform are, for example, the Peugeot 3008, the Opel Grandland, and, very recently, the other newcomer Citroën C5 Aircross.

The new infotainment system, standard on the entire lineup, offers a 10-inch cluster and a 16-inch central display. Connected services ensure that the vehicle will always be up-to-date, receiving over-the-air (OTA) updates throughout the lifecycle, and Level 2 autonomous driving will support customers.

“The new Jeep Compass boldly represents the brand’s forward-thinking philosophy, highlighting our dedication to meeting today’s market demands and anticipating tomorrow’s opportunities,” explains Fabio Catone, Head of Jeep Brand in Enlarged Europe.

“This vehicle perfectly expresses the Jeep ruggedness and performance, delivering state-of-the-art solutions while preserving our commitment to electrification and sustainability. Crafted for outdoor adventures yet perfect for everyday use, the new Jeep Compass stands as a powerful testament to our relentless pursuit of innovation and versatility, designed to meet the diverse needs of customers around the world.”

Five powertrain versions

With a full range of powertrains covering the segment widely, the new Compass will give its customers the freedom of choice with a 145 hp 48 V Hybrid, a 195 hp Hybrid Plug-in, and 3 BEV versions, ranging from 156 kW/213 hp in the front-wheel drive version up to 275 kW/375 hp in the all-wheel drive.

Jeep introduced a new dedicated and more powerful rear electric motor on the platform, exclusively for the brand, to achieve this. This motor provides an additional 49 kW of peak power and up to 232 Nm torque. Coupling this with a 14:1 rear reducer translates into an impressive 3100 Nm available at the rear wheels.

This has to provide maximum traction in most challenging situations, with the ability to climb a 20% slope, even with zero traction on the front wheels.

EV Charging is also up to the higher standard, with a rapid 160 kW DC solution offering a 30-minute 20-80% recharging time, and an onboard charger with up to 22 kW.

The BEV’s range is 650 km, depending on the electric powertrain(s) used. The drag coefficient has been improved by 10%, achieving a value of less than 0.3, by introducing elements like an active grill shutter directly integrated into the front bumper, an air duct on the front and rear wheels, sharp rear edges, and a fully flat underbody design.

A real Jeep

According to the manufacturer, the new Compass’s capability is extended across the range, including the front-wheel-drive version, which will also be 100% capable.

With a ground clearance of up to 200 mm, an approach angle of 20°, a break-over angle of 15°, and a departure angle of 26°, the new Compass is equipped to handle rugged terrain.

Additionally, the vehicle’s water fording depth of up to 470 mm highlights its ability to tackle challenging environments. “Selec-terrain will be standard on all versions to support our customers in the most challenging situations, as it will be the 360-degree protection already present on the Avenger,” Jeep promises.

New suspension tuning with dedicated springs, dampers, and an antiroll bar promises a good compromise between handling and comfort.

The all-wheel-drive versions will be even more capable thanks to a special extra-functional design that ensures 27 degrees of approach angle, 16 degrees of break-over, and 31 degrees of departure angle, as well as improved ground clearance and water fording. Hill descent control will be standard on all-wheel-drive versions.

First Edition

The First Edition will be introduced first and is now available for order with 2 powertrains: e-Hybrid and BEV (74 kWh battery,  213 hp Front-Wheel Drive).

It will have up to 20-inch wheels, LED matrix lights, a 16-inch navigation system, Level 2 autonomous drive, 360° all-around protection, and a hands-free power tailgate.
