Revealing the three-row version of its ID. Buzz is more than adding extra inches of wheelbase and one more bench in the back. The new LWB version also adds an enhanced infotainment system, a new head-up display, a clever configuration, and more range.
First, that length. Overall, the wheelbase stretches to 3 239 mm (up from 2 989 on the normal ID. Buzz), and the rear bumper sits almost five meters apart from the front bumper. Of course, this opens up a whole new world on the inside.
Samba for the modern age
Under a big panoramic roof sits a modular configuration that can house five, six, or seven passengers. The glass roof of 1,5 m2, covering the first and the second row, comes with a PLDC film comprising polymer-dispersed liquid crystals that can switch from transparent to opaque.
The driver can control the lighting ambiance with a glider switch. No surprise that Volkswagen refers to some nostalgia with the effect of the panoramic roof, calling the more extended version a “Samba for the modern age”.
An essential first is the infotainment system that introduces a new operating system and a revamped graphic interface for much more intuitive operations. In addition, it features a Car Control Center bundling the programmable functions of the car, which the driver can personalize.
The voice control IDA accompanies the new system, which marks a fresh start as Volkswagen has struggled with its software department since it kickstarted the ID range.

Swiveling seats
Next to people transport, the longer ID. Buzz also offers more cargo space. With all back benches down, a generous space of 2 469 liters is deployed, which shrinks to 1 340 liters with the second row in place and 306 liters with all rows in place. But folded, the seats provide a significant threshold for the cargo floor.
To enhance the travel experience for the passengers, a range of optional features are introduced, like swiveling seats on the second row, a clever stowage box, and a heightened trunk floor to level the previously mentioned surface of the cargo bay.

No Cargo version
Also, the range has grown – the LWB ID. Buzz comes in an 86 kWh battery pack featuring a more robust electric motor of 286 hp, compared to 77 kWh and 204 hp on the best-performing version of the shorter ID. Buzz version. This leads to an optimal range of 486 kilometers (WLTP), up from 415 kilometers. Moreover, enhancing practicality, the towing weight rises from 1 000 kg to 1 800 kg.
The extended version will not be available as commercial Cargo; this task is for the all-new Transporter appearing next year in a zero-emission battery-powered version. Volkswagen added that the camper version, Europe’s fastest-growing category among LCVs, will be based on the LWB.
