Ford has unveiled a plug-in hybrid version of its Ranger pickup truck. Although not all of the information has been made public, the Ranger PHEV should remain just as practical with some added benefits from the battery, including a 45 km EV driving range.
Although it’s not the rumored all-electric Ranger, Ford has shared images and some info about an electrified version of its popular mid-size pickup truck. The Ranger PHEV is coming in 2025 and offers an electric driving range of “more than 45 kilometers” while offering the same practicality.

More torque, same towing capacity
That includes a 3 500 kg towing capacity and the same amount of space in the cargo bed, as the battery is hidden underneath. However, expect a lower payload capacity due to the battery’s added weight. Power comes from a 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine and an electric motor, offering “more torque than any other Ranger”.
A big rechargeable battery adds some benefits like Ford’s Pro Power Onboard system to supply juice to external power tools and leisure equipment without needing a generator. Not much more info has been given, with production still a long way off.
The first models will roll off the production line in late 2024, with deliveries scheduled for early 2025. Expect more details between now and then. Volkswagen also considers an electrified version of the technically related VW Amarok, but that will likely be a fully electric version rather than a hybrid.
