All-new Renault Master gets up to 410 km EV range

Renault has unveiled the fourth-generation Master. The large van gets an all-new look with improved aerodynamics, a completely revamped interior with the latest tech and safety features, and a second all-electric variant with up to 410 km of range. The all-new Master is available from spring 2024.

After over 13 years on the road, the third-gen Renault Master was starting to struggle, although a 2020 facelift kept the model looking fresh. Now, the fourth generation has been announced, with improvements across the board, not in the least in electrification.

20% more efficient

But let’s start with the looks. The new Master gets Renault’s signature C-shape headlamps and the new logo in the middle of the prominent grille, while the asymmetrical rear windows have been kept.

Thanks to a shorter hood, a tilted windscreen, and other aerodynamic improvements, wind resistance has been lowered by over 20%, which helps achieve a similar improvement in energy efficiency.

On the inside, Renault’s road car technology has made its way to the large van, with a standard 10-inch Google-based OpenR Link multimedia system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and internet connectivity for telematics.

A digital cockpit is also available, and there’s now 135 liters of storage space in the cabin. The back of the middle seat also folds down into a desk for admin work on the go.

Two electric versions

Regarding powertrains, the Renault Master offers a choice of revamped Blue dCi diesel engines (105 to 170 hp) with a manual gearbox or a 9-speed automatic. The fully-electric Master gets a second powertrain option: the range starts with a 96 kW (130 hp) motor with a 40 kWh battery, offering a WLTP range of 180 km.

The new long-range version bumps the power to 105 kW (143 hp), while an 87 kWh battery gives the van “more than” 410 km WLTP range. Charging takes around four hours at a 22 kW connection, while fast charging is available up to 130 kW (229 km of range in 30 minutes).

This new large battery places the electric Master among its rivals in range (mainly the Ford E-Transit, Maxus eDeliver 9, Mercedes eSprinter, and the revamped Stellantis range). Renault also mentions the new Master is designed to accommodate a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain, but this version is not available from launch.

Up to 22 m³ of cargo space

On the practical side, the new Renault Master will become available with up to 40 different silhouettes and a cargo capacity of 11 to 22 m³ thanks to a wider opening and a 100 mm longer load area.

Of course, many conversion bases are also available. The payload is up to two tons for a front-wheel-drive model or 1 625 kg for a B-category model (up to 3,5 tons vehicle mass).  The new large van from Renault will become available in spring 2024.
