Cambio continues to boom rounding one million trips mark

Cambio, the car-sharing system, had another record year. Last year, the company took over 1 million rides for the first time. It also added some 7 000 new users, so today cambio has more than 70 000 members.

Those as many as 70 648 members can fall back on a fleet of more than 2 700 cars, 500 more compared to 2022. The vehicles are spread across more than 100 cities in Belgium. The exact number of trips from last year is not yet known.

More and more established

According to Cambio, each shared car replaces 15 private vehicles on average, which would mean that thanks to the car-sharing system, 37 940 fewer cars were on the road last year.

“With this result, Cambio proves above all that, after more than 20 years, it is still a solid and robust player in the highly evolving and sometimes uncertain car-sharing sector,” it says. “The growth in recent years proves that car-sharing is becoming increasingly established in everyday mobility.”

Expanding the offer

Cambio aims to strengthen its market position and expand its offering in the coming year. The company says it also wants to improve the app and its services. Cambio, an initiative of public transport companies such as MIVB/STIB, De Lijn, TEC, NMBS/STIB, and the Flemish Automobilist Association VAB, was launched in Belgium in May 2002.

The system works with carts ready day and night at fixed locations in different cities. The user pays a fixed monthly amount, supplemented by an amount per use based on time and kilometers.
