IM Motors, the joint venture between e-commerce giant Alibaba and Chinese car manufacturer SAIC (MG, Maxus), is coming to Europe with the L6 electric saloon. It will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show with a promised range of up to 800 km thanks to a solid-state battery.
IM Motors (Intelligent in Motion) was launched in 2021 as a joint venture between Alibaba, which brings its AI experience and technology to the table, and SAIC, which has the experience and infrastructure for car development and manufacturing.

Fourth model for Europe
So far, IM has three models in China: the L7, a full-size sedan, and the LS6, and LS7, a mid-size and a large SUV. The models differentiate themselves with lots of tech on-board and comfort options for the passengers.
Now, the brand is preparing for a European launch. It will debut its new L6 model at the Geneva Motor Show, a mid-size sedan in the same realm as the VW ID.7. But thanks to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, we can already know some of its specs.

Solid-state battery
The L6 will feature three electric motor options with 294 to 408 hp of power, but more interesting is the battery pack. As standard, a lithium-ion battery will deliver over 600 km of range (likely based on the Chinese CLTC standards, which are more lenient than Europe’s WLTP). But a second battery will become available later on: a solid-state battery with 800 km of range.
In terms of design, the IM L6 looks to focus on aerodynamics, with a smooth shape, wheel covers and flush door handles to improve efficiency. A European launch is planned for 2025, but more will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show from 26 February to 3 March 2024.
