Following the Deepal S07, the Chinese car manufacturer Changan is now also introducing the smaller electric SUV Deepal S05 in Europe. The European Deepal S05, which was just unveiled at the IAA trade show in Munich, will start at a list price of €38,990 in Germany.
The Deepal S07 was introduced in Europe in March of this year; now the S05 has been announced. Considering that Changan plans to introduce eight electric vehicle models on European markets by 2027, the introduction rate will still speed up.
Sales of the Deepal S05 started in China in October last year, where the technical details also became known. The battery-electric version of the Chinese version of the Deepal S05 is powered by a 175 kW motor with 320 Nm of torque at the rear axle.
The electric car is equipped with a 56.12 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack and has a CLTC range of 510 kilometers. The top speed is 180 kph, and acceleration from 0 to 100 kph is 7.3 seconds.
Fast charging with up to 300 kW is also supported. It takes 15 minutes to charge the battery from 30% to 80%. The towing capacity is up to 1,600 kg.
Three model variants
In China, the price for the Deepal S05 started at 119,900 yuan (± €15,500). In Europe, according to the German list prices, which were released with the presentation at the IAA in Munich, three models will be available.

Prices start at the above-mentioned €38,990 for the base ‘RWD Pro’ variant, which goes up to €41,990 for the mid-range ‘RWD Max’ model, and finally, the ‘AWD Max’ four-wheel drive variant starts at €44,990.
Both base variants are equipped with a 200 kW drive system in Europe, producing 290 Nm and accelerating from 0 to 100 kph in 7.5 seconds. The WLTP range has been set at 485 km for both models. They are also powered by the same 68.8 kWh LFP battery, which can charge with up to 11 kW with an AC charging station, and takes about 23 minutes for a 10-80% charging process while fast DC charging.
The range-topping AWD Max version features a second motor, so it delivers the same 200 kW at the rear, plus another 120 kW at the front, with a total torque of 290 Nm + 212 Nm. This lowers the acceleration time from 0 to 100 kph to 5.5 seconds, but also reduces the range to 445 km. All models feature the same top speed of 180 kph.
Production in Europe?
As part of its model ramp-up, Changan has also begun searching for factory sites in Europe; however, no specific locations have been mentioned. In an interview with Reuters, Nic Thomas, Changan’s Head of Marketing, Sales and Service in Europe, only said: “We’re committed to being in Europe, making in Europe for Europe. We’re working on local manufacturing solutions here.”
So far, what has been confirmed is that Changan plans to enter Europe with three brands – its core Changan brand, Deepal, and Avatr. The initial target markets are Norway, Denmark, Germany, the UK, and the Netherlands.
