German Flixbus acquires Luxembourg airport shuttle platform Flibco

On Tuesday, the German bus company Flix, parent company of FlixBus, announced the acquisition of a majority share of Flibco, a leading European airport transfer platform currently owned by the Luxembourg company SLG (formerly Sales-Lentz Group). The parties involved did not disclose financial details. The Flibco name will, in any case, be retained after the takeover.

The transaction marks Flix’s further expansion into the airport shuttle segment. It strengthens its position in European travel, while enabling Flibco to accelerate its growth as part of the Flix Group. SLG will remain a minority shareholder and strategic partner.

Leading airport shuttle provider

Flibco has established itself as one of the leading airport shuttle providers in Europe, operating services in seven countries and partnering with local bus partners. The company is mainly active with bus services to the airports of Frankfurt, London Stansted, Milan Malpensa, Pisa Airport, and the two main airports in Belgium: Zaventem and Charleroi.

Flibco was founded and headquartered in Luxembourg and is a familiar transport name. In 2022, it became the first private bus company to operate a connection between two Flemish cities, thus theoretically becoming a competitor for the Flemish bus company De Lijn. In the meantime, the company connects cities such as Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, and Liège with Brussels Airport and Charleroi, including overnight departures for early flights.

Sustainable mobility

Customers will continue to book airport shuttle tickets directly via flibco.com. Moving forward, Flibco routes will also become available on the Flix platform, allowing customers to combine airport shuttles with Flix’s wider travel offering.

Flibco’s management team and employees will remain in place. The company will continue to operate from its headquarters in Luxembourg under the leadership of CEO Tobias Stüber. The company itself doesn’t own most buses — it coordinates local operators similar to FlixBus’s asset-light model.

Tobias Stüber, CEO of Flibco, commented: ”The partnership with Flix marks the next milestone in Flibco’s successful growth story. We share the same vision of making affordable and sustainable mobility accessible to everyone.”

One-stop mobility platform

Flix is by far the largest bus company, operating routes between hundreds of cities. It has also expanded into train service, and after it acquired Greyhound, it has a strong footprint in the United States.

This takeover is essential not because it’s huge financially (details weren’t disclosed), but because it aligns with Flix’s long-term strategy to become a one-stop mobility platform across Europe — and airport transfers are now part of that core offer.
