Yet another Chinese EV brand is knocking on Europe’s door: AIVA

Yet another Chinese EV brand is knocking on Europe’s door, but this very young AIVA comes with unusually heavyweight parents.

The brand, backed by Seres and battery giant CATL, has chosen Paris for the global debut of its first production model, the ME7. European sales, however, have not yet been confirmed.

AIVA was created in June 2026 by Chongqing Saidou Technology, formerly known as Landian Technology. Seres owns almost 33% of the company, while CATL holds roughly 10%. The combination gives the newcomer access to Seres’ manufacturing and vehicle-development expertise and CATL’s battery technology.

A third heavyweight partner comes from outside the traditional car industry. Volcengine, the cloud and AI division of TikTok parent ByteDance, supplies artificial intelligence technology for the vehicle, while Chinese autonomous driving specialist DeepRoute is reportedly involved in the driver-assistance systems.

Production car, not just a concept

AIVA had already shown its Origin concept earlier this year, but the car presented in Paris is the production ME7. The five-door crossover measures 4.85 meters long and has a 2.90-meter wheelbase, putting it firmly in the territory of cars such as the Tesla Model Y, XPeng G6, BYD Sealion 7 and Polestar 4.

Its low roofline and pronounced rear spoiler make the ME7 more of an SUV-coupé than a conventional family SUV. Among its more unusual features are interactive pixel-style front lights which can display different patterns and react to gestures.

AIVA says the ME7 will be offered both as a fully electric model and with a range-extender drivetrain. Development prototypes have also been spotted with roof-mounted lidar.

Technical specifications remain surprisingly scarce. AIVA has not yet published confirmed battery capacities, motor outputs, acceleration figures, charging speeds or driving ranges.

Earlier Chinese reports linked the ME7 to CATL’s latest battery-swapping technology, including an 800-volt 75-kWh battery pack. That has not yet been confirmed for the production vehicle, however, and should therefore be treated cautiously.

Europe remains an open question

Choosing Paris Fashion Week for the global reveal is a clear statement of international ambition. AIVA has also said it intends to sell vehicles outside China, but there is currently no announced European launch date, homologation timetable or distribution network.

There are no confirmed plans for AIVA in Belgium or the Netherlands yet. Seres itself already has a modest presence in both markets, with the Seres 3 sold through dealers in Belgium and Astara representing the brand in the Netherlands.

That could potentially provide AIVA with an existing route to market, although AIVA positions itself as an independent brand and has not said whether it will use Seres’ current European sales channels.

Pricing is equally unclear. AIVA has previously indicated that its models will target the Chinese market above 200,000 yuan, roughly €24,000 before taxes and European import costs. That figure should not be interpreted as an expected European price.

If the ME7 eventually arrives here, competition will be fierce. The Tesla Model Y remains the obvious benchmark, while Chinese rivals, including the XPeng G6, BYD Sealion 7, and Zeekr 7X, already combine competitive pricing with long ranges and very fast charging. The Polestar 4 and smart #5 offer similar premium-tech positioning.
