BMW continues to expand its ‘Neue Klasse’ family with the new iX4, a sporty electric SUV coupé positioned between the iX3 and the larger iX5. The model will launch in three all-wheel-drive variants, including the 450 kW iX4 M60 xDrive top version, which will also arrive in the iX3. Prices for the iX4 start at €70,900 in Germany and €69,800 in Belgium.
BMW’s Neue Klasse portfolio just keeps on growing. Following in the footsteps of the mid-size SUV iX3 and, subsequently, the i3 saloon and the flagship iX5, the iX4 is now ready.
The SUV-coupé, with a starting price around €70,000, is priced similarly to the Audi Q6 Sportback e-tron and less expensive than, for example, a Mercedes GLC or a Porsche Macan Electric.
The market launch is scheduled for March 2027, with the BMW available to order as the iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive. The top model, the iX4 M60 xDrive, will be available to order from January 2027, just like its plain SUV brother, the iX3 M60 xDrive.

All-wheel-drive and 400 kW charging
All variants of the BMW iX4 feature an electric motor on each axle, providing all-wheel drive. For the iX4 40 xDrive, BMW specifies 275 kW of system output and a maximum torque of 520 Nm.
The iX4 50 xDrive delivers 345 kW and 645 Nm. This allows the two models to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 5.6 and 4.9 seconds, respectively, with a top speed of 210 kph.
Based on Generation 6 eDrive technology, the 800-volt architecture enables DC fast charging at up to 400 kW. The large 108.7-kWh battery can recharge enough energy for up to 387 km in ten minutes, according to the manufacturer. The maximum range is 828 km.
The smaller 82.6-kWh battery, with 300 kW charging power, can add up to 301 km of range in ten minutes. Overall, it offers up to 638 km of range.
Both batteries can be charged from 10 to 80% in 21 minutes. As standard, the iX4 charges at 11 kW from a wallbox, with an option for 22 kW charging. The SUV, with its fast coupé rear, also supports bidirectional charging (V2L, V2H, V2G).

Emotional, sporty character
Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klasse, BMW Compact and Mid-size, explains: “With the new all-electric BMW iX4, we are expanding the Neue Klasse portfolio with a particularly emotional vehicle. Its striking proportions, elegant coupé silhouette, and Neue Klasse technologies combine to create a unique character. It unites sportiness, expressiveness, and innovative technology, thus making a strong statement in our all-electric BMW portfolio.”
To enhance this sporty feeling, the manufacturer is equipping the SUV-coupé with the M Sport package as standard. This includes special design elements, 20-inch alloy wheels, an M Sport braking system with blue brake calipers, and a sport steering wheel.
With a kerb weight of 2,260 to 2,380 kg, depending on the battery pack, the 4.78 m long, 1.90 m wide and 1.60 m high iX4 requires considerable tuning expertise to maneuver its inert mass nimbly around corners.
Alongside an adaptive lightweight chassis with a double-joint front axle connecting the body, axle carriers, and battery, and a five-link rear axle with separate springs and dampers, the ‘Heart of Joy’ central steering system is key.
Together with the Driving Stack BMW Dynamic Performance Control, this system regulates the drive and driving dynamics ten times faster than previous systems.
Enough room, sporty feel
Inside, BMW offers passengers elegant sporty seats with a memory function and the Travel & Comfort System as standard. Sports or multifunction seats, as well as rear seat heating, are available as optional extras.
The rear seatback can be folded down in a 40:20:40 ratio. According to the manufacturer, the standard panoramic glass roof and the rearward-sloping roofline have no negative impact on interior space thanks to the vehicle’s architecture.

The cockpit is, as always, driver-oriented and offers a 3D head-up display, the already famous panorama display spanning the entire width of the dashboard, and a 17.9-inch central display.
Behind it is the latest version of BMW’s operating system, OS X, which also lets you personalize sound, lighting, displays, and the drivetrain. The BMW iX4’s assistance systems are also AI-supported and enable partially automated driving and parking.

M feeling: 450 kW and 875 Nm
Soon after the iX4’s market launch, two high-performance variants of BMW’s new mid-size SUV are set to follow: the iX3 M60 xDrive and the iX4 M60 xDrive. Each axle has an electric motor, delivering a combined system output of 450 kW and 875 Nm of torque.
This allows the M60 variants to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 3.9 seconds. Both versions are limited to a top speed of 240 kph. According to the manufacturer, the maximum range is 777 km for the coupé and 754 for the less aerodynamic iX3.

Standard equipment for the M60 xDrive variants includes 21-inch alloy wheels, a black kidney grille, and distinctive light signatures. Inside, the standard package includes M Sport seats with electric 10-way adjustment, an M-specific display with a power meter, and an M Sport steering wheel with a 12 o’clock marker and paddle shifters.
Also on board are specially tuned adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers and sport steering, an M limited-slip differential on the rear axle, and two exclusive driving modes: ‘M Sport’ and ‘M Sport Plus’.
