Changan brings affordable NEVO Q05 to Europe

Chinese automotive giant Changan is expanding its European offensive with the NEVO Q05, an affordable electric family SUV offering up to 450 km of range. Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, it will reach European showrooms in early 2027.

Meanwhile, Changan is adding plug-in hybrids to its Deepal range and exploring production in Europe. But its commercial rollout in Belgium and Luxembourg remains unclear.

The NEVO Q05 is not entirely new. It was launched in China in November 2025, with prices starting at just 79,900 yuan, equivalent to approximately €10,000. Its arrival in Europe marks the introduction of Changan’s third product family, alongside Deepal and premium brand Avatr.

Measuring approximately 4.4 meters, the Q05 targets the popular B+ SUV segment. It offers a 2,735 mm wheelbase, 540 liters of luggage space, expandable to 1,380 liters, and a panoramic glass roof.

Changan promises up to 450 km of WLTP range and DC fast charging from 30 to 80% in just 15 minutes. However, European battery capacities and charging power have yet to be confirmed.

Price will be decisive

In China, the Q05 comes with 40.3 or 51.9 kWh LFP batteries and a 120 kW (163 hp) electric motor. European prices have not been announced, although German media estimate an entry price slightly above €30,000.

That would put it directly against the Leapmotor B10, available in Belgium from around €30,000, the BYD Atto 2, Renault 4 E-Tech, and Kia EV3.

Competition is particularly fierce from fellow Chinese manufacturers. Leapmotor offers up to 434 km of WLTP range with its B10, supported by Stellantis’ European distribution network. BYD already has an expanding dealer presence.

For Changan, competitive pricing alone will not be enough. European buyers will also expect reliable aftersales support, warranties, and a well-established dealer network.

Deepal adds a plug-in hybrid

Changan is simultaneously expanding its Deepal range with the S07 PHEV, a D-segment SUV promising more than 1,000 km of combined range and up to 100 km of electric driving under WLTP conditions.

Its 2,900 mm wheelbase, ventilated and heated seats, and 20-speaker Dynaudio sound system position it as a comfortable family SUV. The S07 PHEV will compete against models such as the BYD Seal U DM-i, MG HS PHEV, and Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid. Prices have not yet been announced.

While plug-in hybrids remain attractive in several European markets, their prospects in Belgium’s company-car market are increasingly constrained by taxation that favors fully electric vehicles.

Belgium and Luxembourg still waiting

Changan is already commercially active in the Netherlands, where Emil Frey handles distribution, sales, and aftersales. Dealerships have opened in Utrecht, Amsterdam, and Alphen aan den Rijn, with further expansion planned for 2027.

Belgium and Luxembourg are a different story. Changan has launched dedicated websites for both countries, featuring the electric Deepal S05 and S07. However, no comparable dealer network, confirmed delivery program, or national launch timetable could be verified.

Whether the NEVO Q05 and S07 PHEV will arrive simultaneously in all three Benelux countries therefore remains an open question.

European manufacturing ambitions

Beyond expanding its model range, Changan is investigating local production to strengthen its European foothold. According to Reuters, the manufacturer aims to have its first European-made vehicle ready by mid-2027 and to reach annual production of 350,000 vehicles by 2030.

Changan’s latest official statement is more cautious, describing potential cooperation with existing factories and manufacturing partners, depending on demand and supply-chain readiness. No production site or binding investment decision was announced in Paris.

Local manufacturing could help Chinese manufacturers address EU import tariffs on electric cars and adapt to possible future European-content requirements.

Changan already operates a design center in Turin and an R&D facility in Birmingham. With nearly three million vehicles sold worldwide in 2025, it has the scale to become a serious European competitor.
