Kia unveils PV5, its first electric passenger and cargo van

Following the compact EV4, Kia has also unveiled the design of its first commercial vehicle, the PV5, ahead of the Korean manufacturer’s EV Day 2025 at the end of February. The Kia PV5 will be available in a Passenger and Cargo version, built on the new Platform Beyond Vehicle architecture.

The Kia PV5 was first shown as a concept vehicle at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas. It was part of an entire PBV ecosystem that also featured smaller and larger vehicles built on the same modular platform.

PV5 as a first salvo

The PV5 will be Kia’s first commercial vehicle. It will test the waters before the more daring PV1 and PV7 models are released. These models will feature swappable magnet-based body modules and docking between vehicles using rails.

Kia previously announced it would launch the production versions of the EV4 (a compact saloon and hatchback) and the PV5 at its EV Day 2025 in Tarragona, Spain, on February 27. However, after unveiling the EV4’s design early, it is no surprise that the PV5 also gets a moment under the spotlights ahead of its official launch.

Passenger and Cargo Van

Kia has published images and more info on the two base configurations of the PV5: the Passenger Van and the Cargo Van. There is no need to explain their core purpose. More variants, such as a chassis-cab version and specialized conversions, are coming and will be present at the EV Day.

In both cases, the Kia PV5 features an exceptionally modern design, with vertical LED headlights and two more lamps hidden in the front bumper. The bumper also features easily replaceable lower corner pieces, which get damaged easily during tight maneuvers. At the rear, the look is traditional, with a large hatch for the passenger version, while the cargo van features double doors.

400 km range?

For all the technical details, we will have to wait another week when Kia officially unveils the production version of the PV5 at its EV Day 2025. The concept version was 4,645 mm long and featured an NMC battery for a range of around 400 km. Production will commence in August 2025 in Hwaseong, South Korea.
