Lancia Ypsilon HF copies the E-208 GTi’s homework

Lancia has unveiled its own interpretation of an electric hot hatchback at the Balocco Proving Ground in Italy. The Ypsilon HF shares the same 280 hp electric drivetrain as its cousin, the Peugeot E-208 GTi. And for those who want the muscled look, Lancia is also offering the Ypsilon HF Line.

It appears that Stellantis has allowed all of its European brands to enter the candy shop. After the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce and the Abarth 600e, three more high-performance and compact electric models are coming: the Peugeot E-208 GTi, the Opel Mokka GSE, and the Lancia Ypsilon HF.

Comeback of the HF label

Lancia’s electric hot hatch marks the return of the HF badge, made famous by the Delta HF Integrale from the late 80s. No feisty four-cylinder turbo engine for the Ypsilon HF, however, as this sports model is fully electric. It features the same 280 horsepower electric motor on the front axle as the E-208 GTi, which enables it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hour in just 5.6 seconds.

The battery is the same 54 kWh unit found in most compact electric models from Stellantis. It features a 400 V architecture, which enables the Ypsilon HF to achieve a WLTP range of approximately 370 km. Fast-charging from 10 to 80 percent takes 30 minutes, thanks to a 100 kW charging capacity.

Looks that match the performance

To prevent the 345 Newton-meters of torque from causing the front tyres to smoke, Lancia has also fitted a Torsen limited-slip differential, which should enhance traction, especially in the corners. A powerful braking system from Alcon ensures that the Ypsilon HF comes to a safe stop, even during high-intensity driving.

To aid dynamic balance and make the Ypsilon HF look as powerful as it is, Lancia’s hot hatch has been widened by 3 cm and features a lowered suspension. Specific 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear diffuser, unique front bumpers, and the widened wheel arches differentiate the HF from the regular Ypsilon.

Inside, the Lancia Ypsilon HF features laser-cut Econyl sports seats inspired by the Delta Evoluzione from the 1990s, a perforated leather sports steering wheel adorned with the HF logo, and aluminum pedals. The infotainment system also has a custom color scheme.

HF Line offers the looks without the muscle

If you want most of the looks of the Lancia Ypsilon HF, but without the performance and without having to pay the big bucks, Lancia is now also offering the Ypsilon HF Line. It features similar bumpers, wheels (17-inch in this case), and sports seats, but without the wider body.

The Lancia Ypsilon HF Line is available with either the 1.2 mild-hybrid gasoline engine, producing 110 hp, or the standard electric powertrain, which delivers 156 hp and offers a WLTP range of up to 425 km.
