Every Peugeot nameplate will have a BEV as of 2025

French carmaker Peugeot is accelerating its electrification strategy. At the e-Lion event on Thursday, it announced that every Peugeot in the range will offer a battery-powered version as of 2025. The company also said it was looking into making cars last a lifetime by updating and refurbishing the car along the way. It predicts that its future BEVs will last 60% longer than current ICE cars.

As of this year, every new Peugeot on the European market will be electrified using hybridization, which is more or less the strategy of most carmakers. But Peugeot’s ambitions reach further. It has established a strategy to become the biggest EV maker in Europe. Here’s how it wants to do that.

STLA Medium

As of 2025, every model in the Peugeot showroom will be offered as a BEV. In addition, five new all-electric cars will be brought to market within two years. While this isn’t a new announcement, Peugeot has unveiled this quintet’s nameplates.

Eye-catchers will be the new e-3008 and e-5008, which will be revealed by mid-2023. They are the successors of the popular crossovers from Peugeot. These models will be exclusively offered with a battery pack since they build on a dedicated STLA Medium platform for electric cars, which doesn’t allow combustion engines.

They will be the first models on this platform within the larger Stellantis constellation. The electric driveline makes it possible to offer all-wheel drive for the first time through a dual-motor solution. The range is ambitious and projected at 700 kilometers.

Inception as an example

The other three BEVs hold no surprises. The e-308 and its station wagon version were already unveiled and featured the group’s well-known driveline with a 54 kWh battery pack and a range of roughly 400 km. The recently unveiled alternative to the SUV formula, 408, is poised to follow their lead since it shares most of its technology with the 308, but Peugeot hasn’t yet confirmed this.

Gradually building up the zero-emission line-up must lead to a turning point in 2030 where all new Peugeots sold in Europe are all-electric. The model forging the style and looks of these new-generation Peugeots is the Inception Concept, unveiled at CES Las Vegas last year.

Updating upholstery

Peugeot is introducing a 48-volts hybrid system comprising an electric motor of 29 hp for its existing range of combustion-engined models. As a result, according to the carmaker, it realizes an average consumption benefit of 15%. Moreover, it comes as an add-on to the 1.2 Puretech range, from 208 to 408.

Shifting its focus to a circular approach to the manufacture and use of its cars, Peugeot believes that updating sold models will be essential in the future. The carmaker is experimenting with replacement solutions for worn-out interiors and upholstery next to over-the-air updates, which keeps the technology accurate and relevant. It must lead to a world “without second-hand cars”, according to Design Director Matthias Hossan.
