Hype & Stellantis drop 50 hydrogen taxis in Paris for disabled

Paris taxi company Hype and Stellantis are partnering to put the first hydrogen taxis with specific access for people with reduced mobility (PRM) on the road. Fifty Peugeot e-Expert Hydrogen and Citroën ë-Jumpy Hydrogen will transport users around Paris. By 2024, the partners could have deployed up to 1 000 zero-emission taxis.

Built in northern France, these zero-emission minivans benefit from up to 400 km range and can charge up in as little as 3 minutes. They feature a 10,5 kWh battery and a 45 kW fuel cell delivered by Symbio, and a hydrogen reservoir of 4,4 kilos at 700 bar.

As part of the licensing for ‘Parisian PRM taxis’, these minivans are equipped with wheelchair access at the back. They can, therefore, accommodate up to six passengers or five passengers and one wheelchair. That makes them the first hydrogen-powered taxis with access for the disabled.

Up to 1 000 in 2024

The two French partners aren’t stopping there. After this first deployment, Hype and Stellantis say they will be able to put up to 1 000 of those hydrogen PRM taxis on the road by the end of 2024, in accordance with the Parisian licensing.

“This fleet of vehicles, the only one of its kind on the market, will enable us to roll out our zero-emission service for PRMs on the right scale, first in the Île-de-France region and then in other regions, while meeting ecological and public health imperatives and the objectives of industrialization in France,” declared Mathieu Gardies, founder and CEO of Hype, in a press release.
