Lingxi: new Chinese brand from Honda dedicated to youth

Dongfeng Honda, a joint venture between these Chinese and Japanese brands, has announced the creation of a whole new brand for the Chinese market. Lingxi has been unveiled at a special event showcasing the brand’s latest concept car, the Lingxi L.

This study announces a range of new EVs, including a sedan, based on an all-new electric platform. The new brand is aimed at younger customers and should be priced differently from Honda’s e:NS electric range.

First production model in 2024

Lingxi has been unveiled to the world – well, at least to its future market, China – at a special event showcasing its future. Trying to get a piece of the world’s largest EV market, Lingxi announced plans for an electric sedan, the Lingxi L, to be launched in 2024.

This new brand will help Dongfeng Honda, a joint venture between China’s Dongfeng and Japan’s Honda, which has been producing cars since 2003, increase its electric vehicle production.

According to the brand, the proportion should exceed 50% by 2025, and ten all-electric cars are to be launched before 2030. Lingxi should save Honda in China, as its three electrified vehicles in sale aren’t currently prevalent.

Lingxi will produce its own electric vehicle, and it will sit on a dedicated EV platform, different from Honda’s e:N range /Dongfeng Honda

Dedicated to youth

At the moment, we don’t know much about this new brand, apart from that it will build a new electric car based on a new electric platform, different from Honda’s e:N models.

The joint venture also declared that Lingxi aims to create a “new electric travel experience with ultimate personality and pure fun” – whatever that means.

However, we can be pretty sure that no models of the Lingxi brand will make their way to the European shores. At the moment, Honda is a relatively small player in the electric car market, with the cute but low-sales Honda E and the recently launched and poorly named e:Ny1.
