DATS 24 opens two hydrogen stations, including first one in Wallonia

Last Friday, DATS 24, Colruyt Group’s fuel and energy provider, opened up two additional hydrogen filling stations in Belgium, one in Erpe-Mere and the other in Herve. The latter is also the first hydrogen station in Wallonia for passenger cars.

In addition to the ones in Halle, Haasrode, Wilrijk, and Ollignies, DATS 24 now counts up to six hydrogen filling stations in Belgium. A part of the Europe-backed H2Benelux project, DATS 24’s hydrogen is 100% green.

1st in Wallonia

On December 22, DATS 24 opened the first hydrogen filling station in Wallonia. Initially planned for last year, the station is located in Herve, Liège Province, inside an already existing Dats 24 fueling station. While another hydrogen station exists in Ollignies, it’s only truck-accessible.

In parallel, DATS 24 has opened another hydrogen filling station in Erpe-Mere, Flanders. Both new hydrogen stations are strategically located, the first at the crossroads of Belgium and Germany, while the second is between Brussels and Antwerp.

This brings the total DATS 24 hydrogen filling stations up to six, with others in Haasrode, Wilrijk, Ollignies, and at Colruyt Group’s base in Halle. Including other providers, the total number of hydrogen filling stations in Belgium is now eight.

Green hydrogen

In Halle, the hydrogen available at DATS 24’s filling station is produced with exceeding energy from the plant’s wind turbine. The rest of DATS 24’s hydrogen filling stations provide hydrogen produced from renewable energy sources, making it 100% green.

While only eight hydrogen-powered vehicles were sold in Belgium last semester (Q3), DATS 24 is determined to grow its network. It is part of the H2Benelux project, coordinated by WaterstofNet and part of the Connecting Europe Facility program, to expand the infrastructure and fleet of hydrogen vehicles in Benelux.
