Looking for a comfortable electric van with lots of range, but no need for a high payload? Ford has you covered with the new Explorer Cargo, a van conversion of the electric SUV. It’s available for both new and existing models, and is performed by a Belgian specialist.
The Ford Explorer is the Blue Oval’s mid-size electric SUV for Europe, between the compact Puma Gen-E and the more premium Mustang Mach-E. It is based on Volkswagen’s MEB architecture but features its design and is manufactured by Ford in Cologne, Germany. With a range of up to 602 km, it’s a strong performer within its segment.
Explorer Cargo ‘made in Belgium’
And Ford seems to think some professional customers might also be interested in the long range of the Explorer. Ford Belgium & Luxembourg has partnered with specialists M&M Conversion in Zwevegem, near Courtrai, to convert the Explorer into the Explorer Cargo.

The Ford Explorer Cargo is effectively a light commercial vehicle. M&M Conversion removes the rear seats and mounts a flat cargo floor, creating over 1,400 liters of cargo space (1,436 x 1,312 x 664 mm). Of course, the payload is more limited than what you would get in a regular van, with only 455 kg.
However, the advantage is that you get all of the creature comforts from the regular Ford Explorer. The Cargo version retains the Sync 4 infotainment system, ADAS safety systems, the MegaConsole under the center screen, and, of course, the more supple suspension of an SUV.
From €1,850, also for existing vehicles
Ford and M&M Conversion offer the Explorer Cargo conversion kit for €1,850, excluding VAT, but including assembly. It can be combined with all of the Explorer’s drivetrains, as well as with existing vehicles. The drawback? Compared to combustion vehicles, there is no real tax benefit, as electric cars already pay the minimum in road and registration taxes.
