As Chinese carmakers accelerate their push into global markets, Chery’s youth-oriented Omoda brand is preparing a two-pronged assault on Europe, strengthening its presence with two new electrified models.
The company announced that the Omoda 5 will receive a new SHS-H hybrid variant later this year. At the same time, the all-new Omoda 4, unveiled at Chery’s Global Ecological Conference, will arrive on the Belgian market at the end of 2026.
Serious European ambitions
With these launches, the brand underlines its ambition to become a serious contender in Europe’s compact SUV segment. “The double introduction meets the diverse needs of Belgian consumers and the growing demand for efficient, sustainable, and intelligent mobility solutions,” said Darren Tu, Country Manager Omoda & Jaecoo Belux.
The Omoda 4 has its roots in the Omoda 3 concept, first shown in China, a model widely expected to reach Europe. Over the past year, however, Chery repositioned the vehicle as the Omoda 4 for global markets, giving it more refined styling, upgraded technology, and a more explicit focus on electrification.
Where the Omoda 4 clearly distances itself from its smaller sibling is in its powertrain development. European specifications already circulating in industry media describe a hybrid version combining a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor for a total output of around 225 hp.
Range of +400 km
An all-electric variant is also planned, featuring a 204 hp motor and a battery of roughly 60.9 kWh, good for a projected WLTP range exceeding 400 kilometers. However, final European specifications for Belgium will be confirmed closer to launch.
These figures were discussed at Omoda & Jaecoo’s international user summit last autumn, where the model took center stage in the brand’s next-phase export roadmap.
Although the Omoda 5 hybrid will hit Belgian roads first, the Omoda 4 is clearly positioned as the brand’s next global anchor model. Built around Omoda’s ‘Cyber Mecha’ design language, the Omoda 4 pairs sharp lines and geometric surfaces with a futuristic grille and a fully digital cockpit.
The interior continues the theme with a clean, connected layout, a wide central infotainment display, and a user interface balancing tactile controls with modern touch surfaces.

At roughly 4.4 meters long, the Omoda 4 sits between Europe’s B- and C-segments, placing it in the heart of the continent’s most competitive class. It is targeted at young urban professionals and smaller families seeking an innovative, efficient, and design-led SUV that fits both city environments and suburban commutes.
Fully electric and SHS-S hybrid
For Belgium, the Omoda 4 will be introduced exclusively with electrified drivetrains, including a SHS-H hybrid variant and a fully electric version. This matches earlier international indications that the Omoda 4 would prioritize hybrid and electric powertrains for Europe, with some global markets also receiving plug-in hybrid or combustion (ICE) versions.
Belgium’s adoption of the Omoda 4 confirms that this model—not the earlier Omoda 3 naming—will lead the export strategy in Europe.
Omoda 5 SHS-H
Complementing the future Omoda 4, the Omoda 5 SHS-H expands Omoda’s electrified presence in the short term. The new variant uses the brand’s ‘Wuji Super Hybrid DHT’ system, combining a 1.5-litrer turbo gasoline engine with a 150 kW electric motor for a total of 310 Nm of torque.

One of its headline figures is a WLTP driving range of more than 1,000 kilometers without external charging, positioning it as an efficiency-focused solution for drivers not yet ready to switch to full electric.
Inside, the hybrid Omoda 5 features a 12.3-inch dual-screen infotainment setup, multilingual voice control including Dutch, French, and German, and a suite of European-calibrated ADAS functions, such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance.
Although important for the brand’s sales momentum in 2026, the Omoda 5 SHS-H plays a supporting role in the broader strategy. The Omoda 4 is clearly framed as the next central pillar for Omoda in Europe—an SUV developed from the ground up with global electrified markets in mind.
