China’s EV giant BYD used its Technology Day on March 5 in Shenzhen to unveil a new generation of battery and charging technology while presenting several new models across its expanding brand portfolio.
The headline debut was the Seal 08, a new flagship sedan for the BYD brand that illustrates the company’s push toward 1,000-kilometer electric range and ultra-fast charging.

The Seal 08 will sit at the top of BYD’s Ocean series and serves as the technology flagship of the brand’s mainstream lineup. The sedan is built on a next-generation 800-volt architecture and uses the second-generation Blade Battery.
BYD targets a driving range of more than 1,000 km under the Chinese CLTC test cycle, while its new megawatt ‘flash-charging’ system could add roughly 400 km of range in about five minutes.
The model will also introduce several new technologies to the BYD range, including rear-wheel steering, the DiSus-C adaptive suspension system, and advanced driver assistance supported by LiDAR sensors and the latest version of the company’s ‘God’s Eye’ automated driving platform.
The Seal 08 is expected to launch first in China in 2026, with international expansion likely to follow once the technology is rolled out more widely. BYD has not yet confirmed European timing, but given the brand’s current rollout cycles, a European debut around 2027 appears plausible.
Between €60,000 and €70,000?
Pricing has not been announced either, though it is expected to sit above the current BYD Seal sedan, which starts at roughly €47,000 to €52,000 in several European markets. That suggests the larger and more advanced Seal 08 would likely fall somewhere in the €60,000 to €70,000 range if introduced in Europe.
The Seal 08 was the most visible example of the technological push BYD unveiled at the event, but it was only one element of a broader announcement.

The central reveal was the second generation of BYD’s Blade Battery combined with a megawatt-level charging system capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW of power.
According to the company, the new battery technology allows charging from 10 to 70 percent in roughly five minutes and from 10 to 97 percent in about nine minutes under ideal conditions.
20,000 flash-charging stations
To support this technology, BYD also announced a massive expansion of ultra-fast charging infrastructure. The company plans to deploy around 20,000 flash-charging stations across China in 2026.
Many of these installations will integrate large energy-storage systems to deliver extremely high charging power without placing excessive strain on the local electricity grid.

Alongside the Seal 08, BYD unveiled several other new vehicles across its expanding multi-brand structure. In the premium segment, the Denza Z9 GT was presented as a long-range electric shooting brake capable of travelling up to 1,036 km on the CLTC cycle.
The model also supports the new flash-charging technology and is intended to strengthen Denza’s position as BYD’s premium brand with global ambitions.

At the top of the group’s luxury ladder sits the Yangwang U7 sedan. This ultra-luxury EV features a large battery pack delivering a claimed range of about 1,006 km and is equipped with a quad-motor electric powertrain designed for high performance and advanced chassis control.
Yangwang represents BYD’s entry into the ultra-premium electric segment, and the U7 is positioned to compete with flagship electric sedans from established luxury brands.
BYD also revealed an updated version of the Sealion 06 EV, a mid-size electric SUV that now offers a driving range of up to 710 km under the CLTC cycle.
Updated off-road lineup
The refreshed model also gains compatibility with the company’s new high-power charging platform. Meanwhile, the Fang Cheng Bao off-road brand introduced updated versions of its Ti3 and Ti7 SUVs, which will also support the new flash-charging system while maintaining their focus on rugged electric performance.
Together, the announcements highlight BYD’s strategy of rolling out new technologies simultaneously across multiple brands and vehicle segments. The group now operates a layered portfolio ranging from mass-market models under the BYD name to premium vehicles from Denza, off-road products from Fang Cheng Bao, and ultra-luxury cars under the Yangwang label.
