Kia Belux launches two AWD versions of the EV5 SUV

Kia Belux is expanding its EV5 lineup with two new versions, both four-wheel-drive. These top versions were developed to meet customer demand for greater performance and versatility.

This means a second motor is installed in the rear, increasing the total power output to 195 kW (265 hp) and torque to 385 Nm for the base AWD version. The GT top model adds another 30 kW, bringing the total to 225 kW/306 hp. Maximum torque is 480 Nm here.

EV5 AWD

The base AWD version of the EV5 will be available in two equipment outfits, Business Plus and GT-Line. The equipment runs parallel with the corresponding FWD vehicles. Of course, traction in more difficult road conditions is enhanced, and the towing capacity of 1,800 kg is 600 kg higher than that of the FWD variants.

The EV5 AWD has an 81.4 battery pack, giving the car a 7.3-second sprint time to 100 kph and a WLTP range of around 490 km, depending on the equipment. Pricing in Belgium starts at €52,990 for the Business Plus version, and €55,990 for the GT-Line outfit. This means the additional cost of the four-wheel-drive technique is €3,000.

More dynamic

With the introduction of the GT version of its C-segment SUV, Kia introduces a new interpretation of its GT philosophy. With an additional power output of only 30 kW, the EV5 GT does not prioritize pure performance; instead, it aims to offer a more dynamic driving experience.

Visually, the GT version stands out with its 20-inch wheels, neon-green brake calipers, specific design touches at the front and rear, and a GT interior trim.

To involve the driver more, there’s eDTVC torque vectoring control and an ECS electronically controlled suspension with a front camera (called the Road Preview System) that adapts damping based on the road surface.

Like other Kia GT models, there’s a ‘virtual gear shift’ that simulates gearshifts to enhance the driving experience. Together with ‘active sound design’ and a GT driving mode, it has to make electric driving more rewarding.

The EV5 GT accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 6.2 seconds and has a WLTP range of 475 km. The price of the new top version is €60,990, fully equipped. The only two options are a black bi-tone roof or a panoramic sliding roof.

No Niro and XCeed anymore

Following the recent premieres of the updated versions of the Kia Niro and the Kia XCeed, Kia Belux has decided not to offer these models on the car market in Belgium and Luxembourg. “It’s a decision that reflects our most recent product and electrification strategy,” says Kia Belux.

“With the K4,  the K4 SW, the Seltos, and the Sportage, Kia already possesses a very diversified offer in the C- and C-SUV segments,” Kia belux added. The facelifted Niro is no longer available as a fully electric vehicle and is sold in some EU countries only as a hybrid.

Kia Niro and XCeed won’t be offered anymore in the Belux /Kia
