Alpine reveals electric ‘A110 Future’ in Goodwood (Update)

Alpine has revealed the eye-catching mule (development car) of the third-generation Alpine A110, which debuted at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed: ‘Alpine A110 Future’. Named to reflect its role in shaping the third generation of the iconic Alpine A110 sports car, Alpine A110 Future was the centerpiece of the brand’s strongest-ever presence at the famous event.

The Alpine A110 Future development mule has been built to test the technology that will power the third-generation A110, and visitors to Goodwood (9-12 July) have seen it in action every day across the four-day festival. That third-generation A110 will be a true EV sports car, underpinned by the all-new Alpine Performance Platform (APP), designed to remain true to Alpine’s DNA while aiming at outperforming the best of today’s combustion sports cars.

No compromise

“The Alpine Performance Platform has been engineered to address every technical challenge of creating a genuine EV sports car without compromise,” Alpine proudly boasts. “An advanced aluminum architecture provides the dynamic responsiveness that defines Alpine. Two battery packs are positioned to respect the 40/60% front/rear balance of a true sports car, using 800V cell-to-pack technology with high energy density cells to reduce weight and charging time.”

APP is a modular architecture built on a single platform to cover a range of body styles and drivetrain configurations. Alpine A110 Future previews the 2-seat coupé layout, which uses a dual-battery pack split front and rear, paired with a dual rear e-powertrain. This front/rear split is designed to offer an overall height that matches today’s sporty A110, a very low driving position, and cabin space that comfortably accommodates the full range of driver and passenger sizes.

The 800V battery system splits its energy 25% to the front and 75% to the rear, built on cell-to-pack technology across two floors within a high-pressure die-cast aluminum casing that contributes directly to the car’s structural stiffness. A centralized Battery Management System and aluminum connection harness complete the pack.

Engineered for agility and intensive use, and built to be compact and light, A110 Future’s E-Powertrain incorporates Alpine’s new Active Torque Vectoring 2.0 system with rear dual E-motors, driven by 3-in-1 e-machines with 800V silicon carbide inverters and a Permanent Magnet Synchronous design spinning up to 21,500rpm. The result is precise, instant control at each wheel — with its own e-motor-driven sound to match. Tailored for performance, the system uses torque pre-control, with a 400V boost charging system.

That same focus on agility delivers new features engineered to make Alpine A110 Future fun to drive on both track and road. New Alpine Active Torque Vectoring 2.0 and Wheel Slip Torque Control help reduce understeer at corner entry and mid-corner by managing load transfer and torque under acceleration and lift-off. Both sit within a wider control suite that covers braking, steering, and battery and thermal management, engineered to flex across the platform’s RWD/AWD configurations.

This level of development has been shaped by extensive use of simulation, which saves time and costs by reducing reliance on physical prototypes and helps define specifications for suppliers ahead of physical joint testing. Alpine’s DiM250 driver-in-the-loop simulator — built around an A110 cockpit, a 9-meter conical screen, and hexapod motion technology that reproduces full chassis dynamics — supports chassis tuning, powertrain calibration, tire development, and the development of new control functions. Across all projects combined, more than 45,000km has been logged since the start of simulator use.

From past to future at the Festival of Speed

This year’s Festival of Speed in Goodwood celebrated the heritage that makes A110 Future’s arrival so significant. Landmark models tracing the A110’s evolution from rally icon to electric pioneer will tell the story of Alpine’s past, present, and future.

BWT Alpine Formula One Team star Pierre Gasly steered the development mule for the future third-generation A110 up the famous Hill, accompanied by the Duke of Richmond, founder of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, as Alpine revealed new details of the technology underpinning the EV sports car.

Speaking after the hillclimb, Pierre Gasly said: “It was great to be amongst the first to drive the future of Alpine with my run up the Goodwood Hill in the Alpine A110 Future today. It’s a special occasion for Alpine to unveil what is next in its range to such passionate fans at this event. Alpine continues to show that an electric sports car can be lighter, sharper, and really enjoyable to drive. I am certainly excited to see what the future holds, and I hope everyone enjoyed this show today.”

Joining them on track and on the Alpine stand were two models driving the brand’s recent growth: the A290, Alpine’s best-selling electric hot hatch, and the A390, the new five-seat sport fastback.

Alpine’s presence at Goodwood is meant to extend beyond its cars. Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto headlined a five-strong BWT Alpine Formula One Team driver line-up, joined by Alpine Academy and reserve drivers Nina Gademan, Paul Aron and Alex Dunne. The Alpine stand was a focal point throughout the four days, with interactive simulators, daily driver talks and signing sessions, and lunchtime DJ sets.

First staged in 1993, the Goodwood Festival of Speed is the world’s largest automotive garden party, with more than 600 cars and motorcycles spanning the history of motoring and motorsport taking to the famous hill climb each year, alongside many of the sport’s most legendary figures.
