Audi has removed most of the camouflage from the upcoming A2 e-tron, but the bigger news is beneath the skin.
The manufacturer has released its first detailed technical dossier on the compact EV, confirming that the 140 kW version with an optional efficiency package consumes just 12.8 kWh per 100 kilometers according to preliminary WLTP measurements. Audi calls it the most efficient model in its history.
That figure is helped by a drag coefficient of 0.24, the best achieved by a compact Audi and even better than the original A2 from 1999.
The rounded nose, long roofline, and sharply cut rear are supported by active cooling shutters, a largely enclosed underbody, aerodynamic wheels, and small devices around the wheel arches that guide air past the tires. Together, these measures reduce WLTP consumption by up to 0.9 kWh per 100 kilometers.

The 140 kW model uses a 61 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery with 58 kWh of usable capacity. Its cells are bonded directly to the housing in a cell-to-pack construction, reducing the pack height and creating more foot room inside.
Audi says the chemistry avoids nickel and cobalt, ages more slowly, and can be charged to 100 percent without the same concerns as many nickel-rich batteries. An adapted cooling strategy raises AC charging efficiency by 1.3 percentage points to 89.6 percent.
Fast charging peaks at a rather modest 105 kW, with a 10-80% charge taking 26 minutes. However, those figures indicate a strong charging curve rather than a headline-grabbing peak. Adding 70 percent of the usable battery means taking on about 40.6 kWh, equivalent to an average of almost 94 kW throughout the session.
Vehicle-to-Home
Energy can also flow in the opposite direction. Through Vehicle-to-Load, the A2 e-tron can power an e-bike or other external equipment using a socket in the luggage compartment or an adapter at the charging port.
Vehicle-to-Home goes further by turning the car into a household energy buffer through an Audi-recommended bidirectional DC wallbox, with charging and discharging managed between 20 and 80 percent battery capacity.
Audi says V2H will initially be available only in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, so German customers should gain access with the first deliveries before the end of 2026.
The A2 e-tron is also expected in Belgium this autumn, but Audi Belgium has not announced when V2H will become available locally. Audi has not confirmed Vehicle-to-Grid either.
V2G would allow the battery to feed the public electricity network and provide grid-balancing services, rather than merely supplying the owner’s home, and would require compatible energy contracts, infrastructure, and national regulations.

Audi has not yet published an official range for this specific battery. Dividing its usable capacity by the headline consumption gives a rough theoretical figure of around 450 kilometers, although WLTP range cannot be calculated quite that simply. The previously communicated maximum of 649 kilometers will therefore belong to another version with a larger battery.
Updated MEB technology
Audi still does not explicitly name the platform, but its engineers refer to the MEB model line and confirm that it will feature two rear-mounted motors from the Volkswagen Group. The new APP350 delivers up to 170 kW and 350 Nm, while the APP550 offers up to 240 kW and 545 Nm in the most powerful version.

The APP350 gains silicon carbide semiconductors, thinner motor laminations, revised windings, and new low-friction transmission oil. A relatively tall 10.2:1 gear ratio lowers motor speed on the motorway. Audi says the combined drive system is up to ten percent more efficient than before.
Audi Belgium says the world premiere and local arrival are planned for this autumn, with configuration opening shortly after the reveal. Audi also says the first customer deliveries will begin before the end of 2026. Production will take place at the company’s main plant in Ingolstadt.
The new information makes the A2 e-tron look less like a merely premium alternative to the Volkswagen ID.3 and more like Audi’s attempt to reclaim the efficiency reputation of the original A2.
The final test will be whether the larger-battery versions can combine the promised range of almost 650 kilometers with equally competitive charging speeds and a Belgian price that Audi has not yet disclosed.
